I tell you what terryfibbs, the fight should be uploaded on youtube with the sky coverage, so you point to me the section of the fight where I copied the commentary word for word you pleb
Very true, all he does is rely on his cardio, and tries to outwork his man with lights jabs and the occasional burst of straight punches. The reality is, despite being a "world champion" he was never, or never will be world class. He is European level imo.
wassen basically thought he could repeat the trick he did with Joe earlier, but welsh people have wisened up to that.
What do you mean turn him into a top 1 or 2 of all time in that respective division:yep Calzaghe was a special talent Cleverly is a good but not super Joe great fighter:yep
Suprised someone who is intelligent with a maths degree would decide to fight like cleverly does. He fights like he's cleans toilets for a living.
Beatings like last night take a lot out of a fighter, getting involved in so many wars shortens a fighters career. I don't think he will be making much noise at 175lbs.
With a proper trainer last night and a proper game plan with the use of the jab and using angles he would have won that easily.
How could you care about cleverly on a domestic forum - taking about pretty much a glorified domestic level UK fighter but not know glen mccory? i actually do agree with your point though (and mccory's point) he needlessly took shots into order get off his own, which doesn't work if you're not a puncher.
I'm not a cleverly fanboy, just watch him because he use to be hyped up to high heaven on here, people saying he could be as good as calzaghe etc. But after kovalev humbled him he has become a much more likeable character and wouldn't mind seeing him get back to his best but it is sad to see him get his face needlessly rearranged every other fight simply due to dumb tactics. It wasn't brave, or heroic standing there getting pumped it was dumb. As for Gary Mc****, I don't have a clue who this no mark is and not the least bit interested in discoverying any time soon.
I would have liked to have seen Cleverly stay with Adam Booth, I think they trained together for a month or so, but Clev wanted to live in Wales if I remember correctly.
Who are Cleverlys regular sparring partners? And does anybody know who arranges it? The impression I get is the sparring partners don't carry enough power to make Cleverly changed his style, he reverts to this Nigel Benn type of ducking and bobbing right in front of his opponents and coming back with hooks. That's fine if you carry serious power, or even have a tight defence but Cleverly lacks both. If he was in the gym with sparring partners that could really hurt him he would be forced to change that style, forced to use his legs more but I just get the impression he does what he likes in the gym, goes through the motions. Just my opinion and I hope nobody on a TV channel said anything like this
