For sure, interesting mix of styles and you're right about the Campillo fight. Like Farmboxer said, Cleverly might have to get his skates on. Either that or use his handspeed to beat Kovalev to the punch. But as you pointed out, Cleverly's 'feather fists' probably won't be enough to hold him off.

    Interesting indeed.....

    Kovalev is no Lacy.
He can fight and would probably beat everybody in the division.
That being said , Cleverly is no Calzaghe. He actually has technique, a good snappy jab and puts fluid combos together that nowhere resemble's anything slappy.

Clev will dominate in this fight.
Krusher is a power puncher. No man can throw power punches for 3 full rounds , everyround, and he has to be prepared to fight with frantic pace to compete with Clev.
From what ive seen he goes for flurries then takes the foot of the gas. That let up in pace will be the game changer. Nath will never let him adjust back into his rhythm.
    Should be a great fight.

Lacy was a Showtime fighter and I'm not sure Kovalev has ever fought on HBO before. If he did, it was an undercard.

Kovalev will destroy feather-fisted cleverly, but b-hop would school his a** and stevenson would put him to sleep.

Are you willing to put a friendly wager on that? If so, I have something in mind.

Big , big differences between Lacy and Kovalev. Kovalev was a top tier (not quite the best but very close) amateur as welll as being world armed forces champion.

He received next to no attention in the US until his second win over Darnall Boone, and has not been groomed, but worked his way up and won the attention with his KOs. In short he's come up the old fashioned way, and earned his recognition. In fact Clev and Big Wank bigging him up is about the closest thing to 'official' publicity he's ever had. He was onlly signed by Top Rank 2 fights ago and only his last 4 fights were on NBC (the first two recorded undercards I think). ****, the guy doesn't even have a proper website yet or a Wikipedia entry (in English). HBO only just got interested in him, yet alone him being a hypejob.

In short he's a guy with the skills of a top class amateur, but a heavy hitting pro style that just keeps knocking guys out.

His chin seems OK, and anyway Clev is not the one to test it. In terms of Punch volume both thrown and landed he's roughly equal to Clev, only his punches hurt people, whereas Clevs just sap them and put them off their game.

What it will boil down to is Clevs ability to take the punishment, and Kovalevs stamina, which is really an unknown.

I seen Teddy Roach saying that Kovalev is the best prospect in boxing. But Cleverly is the most underrated fighter in boxing and the boxer is gonna give the puncher a boxing lesson come 8-17.

Clev will be making a real mistake if he believes Kovalev can't box. He was a top class amateur and if you watch his am fights he can hit as well or better than Clev at speed, but as a pro he seems to have focused more on power, and it seems to be working for him.

That said, I'm real glad for Clev to be stepping up, and I'll be hoping for him to raise his level, 'cos Kovalev is in a different class than anything Cleverly's faced to date.
