Sparked by illegal punches. Ok I admit I picked Macklin to decision Golovkin. Based on him being robbed by Sturm and fighting an even fight with Sergio Martinez a top 5 pfp in all of boxing. But at least Macklin was beat fairly.

It would have been interesting reading all the crap that ref would have gotten from the boxing public if he actually DQ'd KOvalev.

 

I ain't gonna argue over it but I've rewatched that second KD about 20 times from two different angles. There's 2 possible punches that could be described as being when Clev had already taken a knee, and neither of them connects properly. Remember Clev had had his strings cut at this point and any impact would have been absolutely apparent anyway. There's a left hook which grazes accross the top of clevs head (due to Clev dropping), through his hair, then a right which Kovalev kinda aborts mid shot and never really touches Clev, though may just brush his hair.

A lot of the tube clips are down now but this one's clear enough, though the original footage gives a better angle when you pause it.

In any case it's apparent that Kovalev begins the first of these just as Clev touches the canvas with his knee, and before Kovalev couldda registered since Clev was so low anyway.

BTW - keep an eye on O'Connor. He's looking right at the action. You think he perhaps had some reason for not calling it?

@ 53 seconds Cleverly gets hit by a 4 punch combo behind the head, with 2 of them when he is down!! What the hell is the ref doing? Wake the **** up. Roy Jones got Dq'd for less than that. Why hell wasn't Cleverly given 5 minutes to recover?
