it rings a bit like burns reign of terror at super featherweight Evensen, Laryea and Cook then he stepped it maybe it the same idea with Cleverly
My problem with the opponents that Cleverly faces is that they just don't give any real indication of what he is capable of. I mean no offence to Tony Bellew, he undoubtedly gave him his toughest fight yet, but to be honest we still don't know what Tony is fully capable of yet because I don't believe we have seen the best of him. I just can't commit to being a 'fan' of Nathan Cleverly until I know he may be worth following. I think the criticism of him is deserved; its all very well saying that 'you shouldn't rush a boxer', but he is a world champion, has been for a while now, and I don't believe that excuse is valid. If you are good enough to wear the belt, you're good enough to face the best contenders IMO.
Really? I think this is a very smart match for Bellew, a good name undoubtedly but I don't think at this stage of his career, at LHW, Miranda has anything to offer which a good prospect like Bellew should overly fear.
:deal Agreed. Whilst judging on recent performances Miranda is not the fighter he was, I still think he has the ability to, if not beat certainly trouble, many good fighters. I like Bellew though, particularly his last peformance, I have a feeling this may be the win that will make people really sit up and start believing in him.:bbb
Lets not pre judge Clev yet Simic hasnt been officially announce yet, always try give brits the benefit of doubt
tyewil, I know you mean well, but this is the kind of attitude that gets punters mugged off. All the 'Get Behind Are Boy' nonsense means that the promoters can get away with padding the records of British prospects. The real problem I have with that is that some of our fighters underachieve because they don't progress quickly enough. Cleverley looks to me to be a real example of this. I remember being very impressed with him at the time of the McIntosh fight, but in the three years since then I think he's hardly progressed as a fighter at all, yet he's a 'World Champion' that is still fighting opponents better suited to 10 rounders second on the bill. Cleverley's toughest fight was Bellew and I honestly thought he (Clev) just scraped home on points. I think that fight would have been a great British Title fight - but a fight for a world strap? Promoters need to stop being so protective of unbeaten records. If a fighter is a World Champion he should be fighting the best available contenders whenever possible.
