Really enjoying this fight. Favorite moment so far is this insane defensive flourish by Pedroza punctuated with a couple hooks and a sharp 2-1 combo, at the end of the fourth round as the fight starts to slip out of Ford's grasp.

That was awsome. Been watching some of his fights the last couple days. In hindsight I dont think Pedroza has gotten his just dues.

Yeah, that's the moment when I became a fan of Pedroza. Mind-boggling defensive awareness and an ultra-smooth transition to creative offense. Ford actually acquitted himself well, but Alcran was on another plane that afternoon.

As much as I enjoyed watching Pedroza live back in the early 80's I'm enjoying alot of the little details to his game that I can just pause and rewind now.
Not to mention I get to listen to the likes of Clancey and Ryan ..Cossell ect. depending on which network he was on.

One of my all time favorite boxing clinics. I try to watch it at least once a year.

Awesome clip. Pedroza was great indeed. You can tell how up for this he was, how determined he was to show Sanchez and the viewing audience the way to kick Ford's arse and stake his claim for a unification fight. And he did, absolutely took a very formidable opponent to bits twice as easily as Sal did. His best ever performance imo.

Patrick Ford had such a tough draw like Jerry The Bull Martin who within 6 mths had two title shots. Mathew Saad Muhammad and Dwight Qawi. Patrick fought Salvador Sanchez ( maj dec ) and the Eusebio Pedroza for titles also both within 6 mths.

Makes me laugh how so many of today's fans see a fighter like Lomencheko dominate a bunch of unproven and 2nd rate fighters (yes you G.Russell jr.) and swear to their grave he's the best fighter the world has ever seen. Like he invented slipping and sharp countering, spin moves and angles. Damn near every top ten rated fighter during Pedroza's era and before was doing it. It was expected really if the fighter was very good/great.

Tells you how bad the average boxing fan has gotten when guys on here question whether the great Roberto Duran has a chance against lmnchko. Pathetic!

But back to the great Pedroza, my fav fight of his is against Laporte. Juan is doing well, hits big E with a smashing rt in the 3rd and Pedroza says enough is enough, starts pounding juans body, comes out in the 4th and hits nothing but the body and takes all the fight rght out of juan. It is a great champion against an in crowd frontrunner and I loved it. The ***** laporte complained of fouls and Pedroza said, "we are a professionals, we do not complain". THAT my friends is a FIGHTER!!!! You can have all the whining Laporte and Tyson pussies you want, give me the ask no quarter give no quarter fighters every time!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :)

I agree 100%. If a fighter is getting fouled, inform the ref 1st. If it continues and the ref is ignoring it, return the favor. Your opponent will get the message.

Laughable..... The question should be what rd does Duran completely ruin his career in.

Another take from that clip and having seen him fight during the 80's is how sharp and well schooled Ford was. Though he missed most of the punches, look how sharp they were, his balance, his angles he uses. He LOOKED like a professional fighter from that era. If he were fighting today with those skills set, he'd be a champ . And the least knowledgeable fight fans would shout to they were blue in the face how he beats Pedroza, Sanchez and others from that era. He would be considered the G.O.A.T to todays fans with those skills.
