https://streamable.com/g1w2e So I know Holyfield is a respected champ of the past, yada, yada, but can someone explain to me what he is doing for defense here? He seems to be leaning into the punches, with one glove up, alternating between sides of his head. Isn't Holyfield supposed to be like one of the best? I respect his heart and courage, but the more I see of him, the more I think people are just too nostalgic for their past heros, and don't want to admit that his boxing has evolved beyond these tehnniques. I will say though, he was great for his time. /s this is another satire thread brought to you by reznick, inspired by critiques against Ezzard Charles and Lee Savold, designed to inspire you to inspect your biases.
Great effort fighting someone so strong in his 12th pro fight. What a war. One can see the improvements in the rematch 5 fights later.
It looks like hes trying unsuccessfully to mimic Bentons rolling defense who was Holys trainer at the time.
