Enjoyed watching Too Sharp clown Montiel in the 12th round after putting up with numerous flagrant low blows and a blatant forearm/elbow smash. Byrd should have disqualified Montiel at least twice in that fight. https://streamable.com/3pzgl
Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson. Why is he so underrated today, being he had about ten title fight victories at Flyweight & SuperFly combined (IBF & WBO) ???
He struggled for recognition in his time, so it's natural he will be largely overlooked today. He was a fixture in most people's top 10 P4P, but never got the career defining fights his talent deserved. He seemed to miss a step after his layoff, and was past his best by the time he got the most meaningful fights of his career against Marquez (at least in retrospect). In the mid to late 90s I would have fancied him to beat Romero, Tapia and Arbachakov, and he would have been too big for Lopez, Carbajal or Gonzalez if they had moved up. Any of those wins would have really added to his profile and resume.
Something I've been curious about myself. How can someone be a P4P sensation/fixture 20 something years ago and all but forgotten nowadays?
Too Sharp runs a youth boxing program in DC and they do well. He also has at least a couple pros in the 2-0, 3-0 stage of their careers.
