After learning on the run, Marciano finally developed into a sharp boxer, with smart skills, excellent form, dynamic balance, and great mechanics to complement his ridiculous power. That is, as sharp a boxer can be when launching catapults.

Marciano's not near as bad technically as his critics make out imo.

    I been sayin!
Funny how much harassment I used to get when I first brought it to the forums attention.

It's interesting how storytelling and conjecture could make people forget simple common sense. That you cannot, absolutely cannot dominate the sport without being very technically sound.

Marciano's a long long way from technically inept or even weak. He worked out ways to make what he had work.

They don’t want you to see that. It complicates the story, canned, simplistically, delivered with colorful tales that could be sold to a mainstream audience with the aid of superhero like illustrations.

If Wilder flattens Joshua, Povetkin a comebacking Fury, and whoever else they throw him in with over the next couple of years, I guess we could say, that he dominates the sport. Would we then have to conclude, that he's very technically sound?

We can safely assume at that point that he has enough tactical acumen to run a division. And, make no mistake, technical acumen would definitely been needed to accomplish that.

Rock was awkward as hell, but within that framework of that awkwardness his technique was fine.

Marciano was well schooled, he kept his elbows in, he bent his knees, he kept his chin down, he didn't cross his feet, he punched with good form, etc. Marciano, like most successful boxers who are short for their weight class, worked off what the other fighter gave him - he tried to make his opponent miss at range so that he could get inside. He did everything he could with what he had physically. Marciano was the kind of boxer that a trainer could be proud of training, he was fundamentally sound, in good condition, and gave everything he had.

You are comparing an apple to an orange, so no, we would not have to conclude that Wilder was technically sound, UNLESS he actually did become technically sound. In any event, it doesn't matter how you win; if you come into the ring with no boxing skills at all but still win the fight then you are awarded the win. I don't think "technically sound" comes into the judges minds when scoring a fight, although recent scoring has made us all wonder if in fact there is anything at all in the minds of judges.

Reznick described round 6 of Marciano-Moore best

When you watch it, ask yourself when you think he threw too many punches and should probably cool down.

And then, once you hear the commentator go "Now he punches back! Now he punches back!" look how he seems to transform into something not human.

I think you're reaching with these superlatives but Rocky definitely looks good in these clips.

Louis, on the other hand, looks surprisingly stiff, imo.
