Another bout not mentioned yet is the Hagler--Duran bout. I thought Marvin was way ahead on the scorecards. I just couldn't see Roberto winning rounds. He hung in there beyond expectations and fought smart, but the other guy was landing every round. Not those clean effective punches he had against Fully Obelmajias, but what I never saw was Roberto outlanding Marvin. Roberto really did not land much the entire fight and never came close to hurting Hagler, but he just took a page out of the Marcos Geraldo fight and nullified a lot of what Hagler was trying to do. But nullify is one thing that really should only make things even at best & it's funny how when a guy nullifies what people are used to seeing, it is scored as an advantage and not a wash.
Leonard vs Hagler......I scored it for Leonard not exactly confortably, but with a decent margin.....it was a bit close though, so perhaps I shouldn´t post here anyway....
Me too. I thought it was a nice upset pick going in and I just never liked Evander against a jabber. They score too many points and Holyfield doesn't get a whole lot of ko's so scoring is crucial. I really liked MM when he kept his weight low. He kept his footwork angles so much better when he was 213 and would not fight guys at 12:00. But it was clear right off the bat Evander didn't like southpaws and he could not get out of the way of that Moorer jab. And the accuracy of Moorer didn't help either and Evander was constantly getting hit no matter what he tried to do. Holyfield was outboxed on that night & often times the older heavies that get outboxed see's them start a downward spiral on their career's. Evander was the rare breed that didn't and bounced back which is a lot easier said than done for heavyweights.
Ike won 1 of the first 5. Swept 6-9, Oscar the last 3 (10-12, with a 10-8 round) Closer fight than people think because of Quartey's sweeping of those middle rounds making it seem like he was doing better than he was. He only threw like 4 combos all night, Oscar won it prety clearly. Pea and Oscar was MUCH closer. I have no problem with anyone scoring it for either guy. Pea ****ed himself giving the last round away :verysad
i actually had both these fights even. 114-114 with giving dlh a 10-7 rd in the 12th vs ike and 115-115 in pea vs dlh. other "close" fights that i didn't have close were the first dawson-johnson fight and the first jones-tarver fight. i had both those scored 8-4 for the winner.
Quartey-Hoya, Ike won comfortably, 8-4 imo. I dont understand how you can give Oscar all the early rounds, unless you are scoring the round based on crowd noise. Ike bossed the fight until he took his foot off the pedal
Zadfrak, I agree on Ali-Spinks I. Leon pretty much dominated. I am a big Ken Norton fan, but I don't think his loss to Holmes was all that close. I think Ken won 5 or 6 rounds that night. On the other hand, I thought Ken won about 10 rounds in the third Ali fight.
its a tough one but when you give up the first 4 rounds in a 12 round fight and dont definitively win the next 8, its tough to cry robbery
Sanchez vs Cowdell Very competitive and may well have showed a way to defeat sanchez, but Cowdell didn't quite have the offence or physical ability to take too many rounds with a style Sanchez clearly had issues solving. Eubank vs Ray Close I\Sugar Boy Malinga kalambay vs Steve Collins Clear win for the old man Saad vs Conteh I Haven't seen many ever say Conteh won, but it didd have the air of a controversial fight at the time, between the illegal monsels solution and the American call having cvonteh ahead.Saad's late rally was enough, of course.
