Usually I’m a fan of those performances but that one was a bit flat. Ramzan himself even seemed bored by it
This is scheduled for 10 rounds for the WBO International light heavyweight title, btw - second defense of Umar Isayevich Salamov.
The challenger is coming off a trilogy-sealing victory in his rubber match with journeyman action hero countryman Robert Talarek (followed by an eleven month layoff), but really Dobrowski has done absolutely nothing lately to deserve a crack at this belt; his last meaningful win coming against then-unbeaten prospect Marek Matyja in 2016. WBO really scraping the bottom of the barrel here - and the result is a lackadaisical defense for Salamov with largely a sparring-session feel to it.
Salamov doing little to endear himself to a crowd that already sounds a bit restless. Letting his left arm hang limp at his side and lobbing up pot-shot jabs cautiously from outside, while Dabrowski just stares at him from behind a peekaboo guard. Whole swaths of time go by where you can hear some guy several rounds back clearing his throat, as no leather is being thrown, let alone making an impact. When it does, it never amounts to more than a soft, wet smack - usually Salamov reaching across the gap with a long lead left hook and partially hitting the back of Dabrowski's right glove or wrist.
And that’s two defenses on the fly that have felt like that. The Anim fight was incredibly dull, but this might be surpassing that to be honest
Dabrowski abruptly dropped midway into the ninth, heavily, with a right cross flush between his eyes. I guess Salamov's game plan was to lull him by boring the shit out of the audience and him for eight and a half rounds. It worked. Dabrowski dropped a second time, over! TKO9!!
When he started that second count I thought for a second the ref was going to let him go on, which wouldn't have ended well. I find the lights quite distracting.
Wow, just had a peek at the YouTube comments...surprise, surprise, a bunch of racist, nationalist and anti-semitic shit from people tuning into a Chechen event featuring a bunch of Chechen boxers... Absolutely rubbish part of the world.
