According to Angelo Dundee...Ali stole a lot of his moves from Luis Rodriguez...same trainer...same gym
I don't find Corbett's boxing skills impressive by modern standards, no. I wasn't impressed by Fitzsimmons' skills in your video either (no offense). They remind me of very experienced and talented street-fighters, tbh. I know that is going to sound like sacrilege to all the fanboys and the guys who didn't grow up around any tough guys who were "nice with their hands," but that's honestly what they remind me of most. Impressive reflexes, toughness, cleverness, conditioning, etc. but the sport has just changed and evolved so much since their time.
Don't you think that a lot of this have to do with much different rules and equipement? I mean, modern defensive techniques like high guard are useless with small gloves and agressive combination after combination punching risks you hands injury. Besides, I always ranked Fitz KO blow as one of the most impressive ever. Perfect set up and delivery.
The three main influences on Ali's style: Robinson Pastrano Rodriguez These are the three to look into first, as they directly inspired Ali's way of boxing, as he frequently studied them as a young pro.
