I just watched HBO's interview with Clottey, where he said something along the lines of, "i dont want to lose the way the other guys (DLH, Hatton, Cotto) did. Even if i lose , i want Pacquiao to say i was the best he ever fought. That would make me happy". It's on the HBO site, so i feel this may already have been done to death, if so just ignore. I was just utterly shocked to see that attitude from him, he always struck me as a quite determined character. Is this defensive mentality? Is it repetition of what we saw of Clottey vs Cotto? Will it be the downfall of Clottey this weekend? All thoughts welcome.
It's just in his nature. And he doesn't succumb to the culture of fake bravado that says he has to ooze with overconfidence...
When you're fighting the #1 p4p fighter in the world, it's pretty natural to think there's a good possibility that you will lose. That being said, I'd rather see some trash talk myself. This is not a good sign. But honestly it wouldn't matter what Clottey said during interviews. It only matters what he does in the ring.
Watch stuff from before he fought Cotto, he says he could lose there, even though he pounded Cotto and we all know he won. He just talks like that.
The possibility for a loss, shouldn't be entertained by Clottey, when his resolve is tested he may go out the "backdoor"!!
