This is borderline ****ing criminal the weight he puts on for so called welterweight fights... Fighting chico at 170.Fighting the tinny Judah at probably 160..am i the only person who thinks something should be done bout this? im not knocking clottey as he is a very talented fighter. But what happened to weight divisions? Gatti was given hell about the Gamache fight, why not this middleweight fighting ass a welterfight?
He got down to 147 didn't he? The only way to change it would be to move the weigh-in to fight day... but if people killed themselves to make weight on fight day they might not rehydrate well and be severely weakened, so it's six of one, half dozen of another.
I like same day weigh ins also. It forces people who are at their ideal weight to fight at that weight.
Fight at the weight until you can't make it or you have cleaned up the division and then move up. So, with that, Clottey still has plenty of unfinished business left at 147.
Thats what i mean..Same day weigh ins..He probably had 10 or 15 pounds on judah,Boxing divisions don't even exist anymore. This is bad for boxing.
They dont like same day weigh ins bcause fighters go to the ring still to dehydrated and risk more chance of brain injury. I know this is a case to make fighters move up in weight, but they wont so the authorites have to take every precaution. :-(
And what the **** was Corrales doing fighting at 147 anyway. The guy flat out skipped jr. welter. But that's besides the point. But anyway as Clottey so eloquently told you that "170" nonsense was with all of his clothes on and his shoes and his hair. As long as Clottey can make 147 he should fight at 147. The bigger question is how is he able to make weight so easily w/o it seeming to affect his performance. The man should be studied.
Corrales wasnt the point..That was his business..im talking about clotteys weight..How the hell can you call a 170 pounder a welterweight. that simple
To be a welterweight you need to be 147 for 20 seconds while you stand on the scale, it sounds pretty simple to me. It's not Clottey's fault they do the weigh-in the day before.
It's still ridiculous, which is the point This is boxing, where you find out who the better fighter on the night whilst keeping all factors as fair as possible. It is NOT who can freakishly drain weight and munch a ton of pies overnight contest. Same day weigh ins, please. At least if they want to do this they'll be weak.
