"Margarito is not a great boxer," Clottey said. "You can see all of his punches coming. I was catching everything he threw. Even though his defense is not very good, he takes a hard punch. I thought it was not good for Cotto to spend so much time on the ropes, taking punches. This content is protected Clottey, left, claims he had little trouble dealing with Antonio Margarito until a hand injury forced Clottey to take his foot off the gas. "I was beating Margarito until I hurt my hand. But I never feared any of his punches because I'm a very good defensive fighter and I caught most of his punches."
He's pointing out facts, not downing the guy. This things make Margarito's accomplishments that much better.
He did catch alot of heat coming from Margarito. I tought he should have won it. Clottey won the first 4 . AND I DONT BELEIVE MArgarito swept the rest of the rounds. I can give Clottey two more rounds scoring this fight a draw.
Where Margo lacks in definitive boxing skills, he makes up in a granite chin and stamina. His size, power, and those two attributes will make him hard to beat outside of Paul Williams in the welterweight division. The only people I can see that take on or possibly takeout Margarito are Williams, the top comp at 154, and middleweights. Otherwise, a fast and defensive welterweight that has Money Mayweather's talent can possibly outbox Margo for a full 12 rounds but that hasn't been done yet. Once that's done, Margo is done because it will be shown that he can be beaten.
I have eyes, that's all I need to say what I've said. You are not in his camp, his corner, or his head, so don't you claim stuff about this injury. That's something you have no way of knowing. If he can throw with that hand - in vast quantity over and instead of his supposedly good hand, then it's an EXCUSE. And a very ****ing lame one.
Yes maybe . . . he is not. But the fact is Margarito finds a way to accomplish what needs to be accomplished and get the win. Now on Clottey . . . he needs to concentrate on Judah because if he wins . . . he'll get a chance to prove his point inside the ring on a possible rematch/unification fight with Margarito. Mean while he should shut the **** up . . . because he got his chance against the man and he blew it. :deal
Margo obviously is not a master boxer, but I think people underestimate his ring intelligence. He has a high workrate and throws punches from all different angles so he's actually doing more than just applying pressure. Who's to say that Clottey would've carried his momentum for the entire duration of the fight, as Cotto found to be an insurmountable task for him. It's not Tony's fault that Clottey hurt his hands throwing his hardest shots. Is he supposed to back off because Clottey can't punch back with full power?
