at best. his performance last night was a disgrace. I have seen more effort from journeymen like, Lee Swaby, Peter Buckley, and Sid Razak than from him last night. He came with one thing in mind .. survivial, he couldnt outwork Manny and win on points, so why not go for it all guns blazing ? Id have had more respect if hed come for a tear up and lost and gave us an edge of the seat fight, to be fair to Manny he tried everything, but it was like trying to chop down an Oak tree with a junior hacksaw.
Well i disagree.I thought he came out of it with some credit. As youve seen i n previous Pacman fights if you open up you get smashed.i thought he gave it a bit of a go at the end but ultimatley didnt disgrace himself.Cotto would have done well to follow Clotteys tactics last time.
He could beat any non-top rank fighter. He knows where his bread is buttered. You can see it it with this fight but mostly the cotto one. If you can excuse his reluctance to throw in this fight how do you excuse it for the Cotto one. He got ahead of himself and forgot wht he was there hence why he stopped thrwing even though Cotto was tehre to be beaten. He does as Uncle Bob tells him. What does he bring to the table, no fans, no PPV draw, boring style, tough and durable. He has hit the jackpot with the fights that he has been given in his career. Infact I would say Uncle Bob has gone way and beyond the call of duty as far as Clottey is concerned. Cotto, Margarito, Pacman, all of who brought 99.9% of the box office There will be Joshua Clotteys littered throughout the divisions that would kill for even 1 of the fights he has had. I hope he isn't given any more big fights but I wouldnt count on it. Does Bob have any other top rank fighters that need a workout
I think people are forgetting what the situation is here. Clottey manfully stepped in because that woman Mayweather looked for a way out of the fight and fought Mosley. That didn't leave Arum with too many options once Mosley was fighting Mayweather. Clottey did okay, he landed a few shots but never buckled Pacquiao so he realized it was lose by decision or lose by KO. If you have the tools to defend yourself well and last the distance it is wise to do that. Maybe Internet warriors would have gone in all guns blazing and got KO'd but they don't have to get hit.
That doesn't excuse the Cotto fight. That fight was there for Clottey and he let it slip away, granted expecting him to go "balls out" swinging against Pac is different.
Yes he should have won the Cotto fight, he had the perfect opportunity. Last night was a completely different story because it wasn't in his power to win the fight. The claim that excusing him for the Pacquiao fight is also excusing him for the Cotto fight is false, he had Cotto on the back foot and was relatively even in the fight, he never won a round last night. He only had one tool to work with which was defence and he did that pretty well.
I certainly think he was a better opponent that the Baldomir that Floyd beat. Just to make a totally random comparison....
he was tough but showed little desire to go for it even late on when he knew he was behind it pisses me off because when he threw he had success , then just did what clttey does and took his foot of the gas
Clottey is a world class fighter and former world champion and to say he is a gatekeeper and no better than a journeyman is taking the ****, he may not be on the same level as Pacman or cotto but he beat Judah and corrales
corales was a career lightweight, i'd of left him out of it but i agree with the rest. People being to hard on clottey here considering pacs an atg ! watch people point out pac was a flyweight at the start...when he was 10 years old
Neither Corrales nor Judah were anything better than 'good' before Clottey got to him. Fact is he was big, tough an had a tight defence. He was a formidable opponent because of certain attributes, at least dominated him like no other fighter had, and bigger fighters than Pac too.
