That had more to do with Clottey's balance.

Clottey was never in trouble in the 6th round. Landing against the guard doesn't hurt Clottey. He was countering very effectively. How many punches do you think Cotto landed cleanly? How many punches do you think Cotto took in that crowd pleasing exchange? After the exchanges Cotto was the one on the back-foot, Cotto was the one who was worse off. Why do you think Cotto was dominated big in the 7th round? He was hurt and tired from the 6th.

Clottey was picked because he`s too slow for MP.... I hope Clottey is right but talk is cheap & MP will win by clear UD (possible TKO)

    Nice post dude.

The only problem you didn't mention are his weaknesses.

    1)
He has sort of a primadonna response to any percieved pain or penalties and this hurts him during the fight.

    a. To this day its not clear whether he had a broken hand, a fractured knuckle or just a bruise vs Margarito but he acted like it was falling off in between rounds.

    b. When Cotto-Clottey turned WWF for a minute, Clottey acted like he'd been shot or that his leg was broken. We know what the truth to that was, he was fine. But it gave him an "excuse" to go into a shell and not come out of it.

(ala Cotto pounding on his face in the 5th or 6th round in the corner and Clottey not throwing back, and his workrate plummeting completely vs Margarito after the 4th.)

You tell me if those are legit responses, or a demonstration mental weakness. Now Pac is someone who brings the pressure like CLOTTEY has never faced, in a more speedy explosive fashion the Margarito. How do YOU think he'll respond, given his history mentioned above and Pac's power, speed and pressure?

2)Clottey as you say was unmarked during his fights. He is built like a tank. If he headbutted Valuev I don't know who would get KOed but I wouldn't bet against Clottey. This and his shell defense has resulted in a self-defeating comfort-zone style wise. He has a tendency to get TOO comfortable being tactical and thinking. He is TOO patient. He has the tendency to stay in that shell for too long. Because he knows that most likely the other guy can't hurt him when he does. At all. But that doesn't score any points. And it certainly isn't the mark of a fighter's mentality who is willing to leave it all on the line, the likes of which Pacquaio has demonstrated.

There is a saying, courage allows talent to express itself.

I think Clottey is lacking in this department when he faces adversity (elite level boxers-guys who will hurt him or effectively pressure him) and that is why he never gets over the hump.

For him to win against Pacquaio he has to demonstrate a willingness to expand his comfort zone style-wise and work-rate wise. All the past and odds say he won't.

Sorry? Please don't be. This is not the type of fight that can be summed up in one or two sentences, or by picking your favorite fighter to win without a single reason why, but rather a "**** whoever disagrees" attitude....like so many do. Especially more so with the superstars, and that doesn't exclude Pacquiao.

There's nothing more discouraging than hitting a guy with the kitchen sink, then he reacts like "you can't be serious". How will Pacquiao react when he lands his money shot on Clottey and gets no reaction? Clottey will still be in his face, moving forward and applying that constant pressuer, instead of trying to beat the ten count. It will be one hell of a task for Manny to keep Clottey off of him. But we cannot forget the Freddie Roach factor.

Clottey will do what he always does. he will do just enough to lose. How does he keep getting big fights ? He has never won anything.

    good post. Many good points.

Clottey is no joke. An underrated, high risk / low reward fighter. The kind who can beat any fighter on any given night.

Its really a good summation of his strengths which are overlooked, but that post doesn't mention his weaknesses which will most likely cost him the fight as they have in the past.

This guy Clottey will need a Buster Douglas vs Tyson performance... a demonstration of his will to win..

Doesn't Clottey say this before every fight ?

Clottey should walk right through Manny ....but somehow I have that feeling that Clottey is going to beat himself and take a few rounds off and not pursue relentlessly.

I still think Clottey can beat Pacquiao !!!
