That thought crossed my mind too, but its a small chance that the IBF title will stay vacated the length of his suspension. (Unless it recognizes the bouts in Mexico ? :huh)

Clottey should have fought that guy last year, then he would be free for whatever he wanted, but he prefered to go inactive.

Fighters need to understand that once they become champ they have obligations to that belt. Probably Cotto was not a bit interested in fighting the IBF mandatory next and that set this decision.

Anyway, even then this IBF decision is BS, ridiculous. It's the second time in a row they do this.

That's all good and well. However, Cintron was Clottey's mando and then backed out. Rodriguez drew with Hlatshwayo in what was supposed to be an elimanator bout and then Rodriguez got hurt. There really was no opportunity for Clottey to face a mando until now. On top of that the IBF's own rules state that unification bouts take priority over mandos.

WBO is the most credible organization right now, they have bogus mandatoies but they never strip their champions due to unification or because they hold different belt. And the belt holders over there are fighting mandatories regularly.

Somehow you have right but at the end every fighter is fading out and if they never had the belt their status from the historical point of view stay VERY LOW. For example Baldomir ... he never was spectacular but no one will ever take from him his titles which he rightfully won.
