Cruz had NOTHING tonight. Clottey could have stopped him in the first, if he'd had any reason to take the risk of running into a counter. There was no way this fight was going to the cards.
Even though Cruz is not an elite fighter by anymeans Clottey is better than he gets credit for. If people look at the fight with Margo before he injured his hand Clottey was out boxing him pretty easily as well. I am surprised that Margo couldn't even stop him considering he barely used his left hand after that.
Not necessarily. Clottey has a propensity for fading and doesn't pack much of punch. If you saw his fights with Chico and Flores, both fights seemed to be on the verge of ending early until Clottey's stamina dipped and he began fighting in spurts.
:good The stoppage looked bad mainly because Cruz is a stubborn, hard-nosed ******* and would not go down. He was tossed across the ring by some of those shots, and he was definitely getting damaged more than you would think from him never crumpling. I guess without a video game life bar people just can't gauge this type of thing.
Yea I have seen the one with Chico (not Flores though) and you do bring up a good point. With that said even still I think Clottey would have won a wide ud.
That seems to be the trend for the past couple weeks. Bull**** stoppages is pissing me off. Especially when you have a fighter that is perfectly capable of fighting back.
For the record, I agree with you, but Cruz just looked horrible from the get go tonight. If he'd looked "live" at all, I'd be saying the stoppage was absolutely awful.
Not a great stoppage, you're right. ..it was early, but I wouldn't protest it, Cruz was getting his ass lit up, and he was only looking to hold and then hit while holding, nothing more. It wasn't looking pretty.
Yeah, bull****, right. Almost as much bull**** as your boy Clottey telling Jim Gray he broke his left hand in the 4th round, and his right hand in the 5th against Margarito. Only to turn around and tell Karyn Bryant in his interview before the Chico fight that he broke a single knuckle on his left hand. :rofl I expected Cruz to give Clottey a rougher time than expected because he's durable and Clottey fades. Both of which never really came into play due to a quick trigger stoppage. Based on what exactly? Like they said last night, Clottey's claim to fame is winning 4 rounds against Margarito, a fighter who's stock has since plummetted.
I was there live. Clottey was definitely hurting him and it didn't seem that Cruz could do anything to turn it around but you are definitely right. The stoppage was premature and the crowd booed when it happened.
