This figure was quoted in The Ring magazine recently. To go from 147 to 166 in a day = :yikes I doubt even big welters like Shane, Margo and Williams have ever ballooned that high in weight in fights at welter. To Clottey fans - do you know if he always scales that weight, or was the Corrales fight a one-off highest ever for him?
Just like Pavlik, Clottey always struggled making weight. It doesnt surprise me and I wouldnt be surprised if he always came in heavy for fight night.
the fight against corrales was at 149, and usually when boxers are cutting down it gradually gets more difficult to shed those last few pounds, so maybe those 2 pounds boosted clottey after the weigh in, and he came in fight night at 170
Clottey takes his peanut head off for weigh-ins. That thing's a good 15 pounds. So far as I remember, Clottey's always been high-160s to low-170s for his walking around weight. That's where all the "too big, too strong" talk was coming from.
Old news, dude. Clottey's always been a ridiculous "welterweight". The ironic thing is, throughout most of his campaign at 147, Junior Middleweight was actually the weaker division. Has he fought there instead (where certainly he'd wear the weight more comfortably) he'd probably have a higher KO ratio and maybe even a non-vacant title win.
170 is just insane for a guy that small. That's 21lbs. Didn't he come in unofficially against Cotto at like 160 or close to it? Iwould trust ring and hbo over showtime as they are not known to do that.
