I strongly disagree that Cotto didn't have the skills to outbox Marg. He was beating Marg to the punch and his flush shots would've had an effect as the fight wore on if it were not for Marg's all time great chin. And Clottey made a mistake by being a bit too busy in his first fight with Marg and he tired out somewhat. I think he learned his lesson and he will be more conservative with his output as he did against Judah. And did you forget that the reason why the fight changed so much in the 5th is because Clottey hurt his hand? It wasn't an adjustment Marg made. I think it was a combination of Clottey gasing a bit and his injury which allowed Marg to come on. Before that, Marg tried to make it a fight but Clottey just kept catching him coming in. Having said all that, i would still pick Margarito to win via UD because he's just too busy for a guy like Clottey.
It wasn't the fifth round, and I think that's bull**** anyway. Margo's hands looked worse than Clottey's, and Clottey was firing off triple hook combinations in the 9th round just as fast and powerful as he was in the first round. I think it was Margarito's constant attack, especially to his body, that hurt a guy that fades down the stretch. And CONDITIONING is a KEY to winning fights, so I while I agree that Cotto had the skills to beat Margarito, he was moving too much, ran out of gas, and faded down the stretch, DUE to Margarito's relentless attack, especially to the body. If Clottey can give some bull**** excuse when it turns out he didn't even fracture his hands, then why can't Margarito complain when it looked like his hands were much worse off at the end of the fight? That's just a typical Clottey fight. He fades.
You didn't watch the fight. Stay the **** out of my threads. I only like people who are informed to comment, not some ***** ass nut huggers who suck dick. Stay the **** out.
I agree Clottye will lose in a rematch eventhough he blocks alot of punches those punches still get counted and when you have a guy who came off a 10 month layoff and set the compubox record on your head I think a prime and start from the 1st bell Margo would stop him
:good I couldn't agree more. I have already gone on record as stating that Clottey WILL defeat margo in their rematch. I hope Vegas makes Margo a huge favorite so I can win some $$$ on it as well.
I watched the entire Margorito/Clottey fight when it was originally aired. I have been watching Clottey for some time as he had been showcased quite often on the Versus Network. I had not seen much of Margarito prior to this fight, but his reputation made me favor him a little (only because Clottey's workrate can sometimes be a bit low and he gives away rounds (the Judah fight this weekend was a prime example). When the fight started, I was shocked at how easy Margarito was to hit. He did look slow and average in the first 3-4 rounds. Clottey did hurt his left hand in rd. 3 or 4 and he suddenly stopped throwing his best punches (left hook body, head, uppercut). After rd. 4, he rarely threw his left hand (almost nothing through all of the middle rounds). He complained to his corner that his left hand was broken and acted like he did not want to continue (this surprised me as I questioned his heart since this was a championship fight). The rest of the fight, he went into his defensive shell and Margarito willed himself to victory through an extraordinary workrate. Margarito landed very few clean punches throughout the fight. Most landed on Clottey's elbows, gloves, arms, shoulders, etc. Since Clottey was not throwing back, these were gimme rounds for Margarito. Clottey did throw back occasionally, but nowhere near what he needed to win rounds. If you think that Margarito wore Clottey down, then you really did not watch the fight. Clottey stopped using his best weapon (left hand) by his own choice (apparently due to injury which I have no doubt). Sorry to all the Margarito fans, but Clottey could have banked at least the first 7-8 rounds if his hand was not hurt and then coasted to victory if he was tired (would have just covered up in his tight guard). If you disagree with this analysis, please watch the fight again, before commenting. If they rematch, I believe this is a pick-em fight. I think the outcome will be determined more on Clottey's heart and determination than Margarito. Margarito fights 1 way, coming forward throwing volumes of punches, looking to wear down his opponent. He can be outboxed, and his defense is very average (uses his iron chin as defense which the judges won't consider defense). If Clottey fights with heart (cannot stop throwing if he gets hurt) and determination, the rematch will be similar to the first fight but without a major injury I would give a slight edge to Clottey.
It was more like a 20 month layoff because his last fight with Manuel Gomez lasted 1:38 in the first round. Spraining his ankle before the fight didn't help either. I also think he would wipe Clottey out on the cards in the rematch. Too bad Clottey injured his left arm against Judah. We won't be seeing him again until early next year probably.
I think Tony beats him clearly in the rematch, no long lay offs this time no ankle and wrist injurys, he will clearly win, I mean damn if Zab Judah can perform well against Clottey and that fight was close until Zab quit, in my eyes Tony fights a much better fresher fight.
This guy made an ignorant comment, and you couldn't agree more? It's like he didn't have any idea what the point of mentioning Cintron was. What the **** does it matter if Cintron has no defense, etc. I didn't even mention that ****. Does Margo have great defense? What the **** does Cintron's defense, heart, etc, have to do with Cintron being considered the hardest puncher in the welterweight division. He definitely needs to slap himself, and you do to just for not know what the **** you were agreeing with. atsch atsch
Nobody says that Margarito wasn't easy to hit. Thats one of hte most obvious things in boxing. You state that Margarito can be outboxed, and can only fight one way, but you fail to mention that Clottey only fights one way as well and lacks the ability to outbox Margarito. And saying Margarito can be outboxed is much easier said than done. Cotto did it for the first half of the fight and part of the second half, but Margarito's relentless pressure, and body attack eventually wore Cotto down and forced him to quit. Clottey is an inside fighter and instead of risking throwing straight punches to catch his opponent coming in, which he rarely does, he is more content in waiting for his opponent to unload his punches on his guard, and then come back with hooks and uppercuts on the inside, where his speed was much superior compared to Margaritos. Once Margarito put aside his pride though and found his range, especially when he started going to Clottey's body, Clottey had no answer. It's easy to say that Clottey was the reason that Clottey wasn't throwing punches, but time and time again, people have questioned Margarito's opposition about why they were not throwing punches. I remember thinking the same thing as Margarito swarmed against Cotto about why Cotto wasn't throwing punches, but if it happens so often, perhaps it isn't his opponent, but it's Margarito's body attack that sucks the life out of his opponents. And while you can say that none of the punches were landing agianst Clottey, and most of them upstairs were not, Margarito was tearing up Clottey's exposed midsection and you could tell that Clottey was sucking air, especially in the mid rounds. Of course Clottey wanted out, he had quit in his eyes, and proved it when he blatantly low-blowed Margarito and then faked a low-blow from Margarito and took a hell of a lot of time to recover when Margo just wanted to fight. The medical reports don't lie, and Clottey's hands were not broken, injured perhaps, but so were Margarito's. Not to mention Margarito had an ankle injury and long layoff, yet Margarito had no excuses even though when it showed his hands, they looked much worse than Clotteys. Clottey was also close to a KD in the 9th round when Margarito had him against the ropes and threw punches at him for about a minute long while Clottey responded few times.
if he couldn't beat an un-motivated margo with a hurt wrist and ankle, no way he beats a 100% margo......
