This is the other side to the accidental butt issue that cost Kooner a loss on the UK card.

I didn't think the cut was that bad. Fighters have gone on with much worse cuts than that.

To me "engineering" a stoppage, and then winning the fight legit due to the rounds you have accumulated is a lesser evil than somebody headbutting their opponent and being awarded a stoppage victory.

Two completely different levels of bull****, the Brit rules are disgraceful.

I agree with you on that although i do feel Calderon is making a nasty habit of this. The rules will never be perfect but for me the Brit ones have to change imo.

I know its horses for courses but under the BBBof C rules Calderson would have wanted to try to carry on amd force the fight, with the 'international' rules he can just think "**** it, I'll take my chances on the cards",

With this and the Kooner fight we've seen both sides of the question tonight.

    Bull**** stoppage.

That was not a "bad cut"; it could have gone on.

To play Devils Advocate a moment, what if the accidental butt is caused by the fighter who ends up recieving the cut and he then goes on to win on the cards? The other guy has lost through no fault of his own.

Of course, there is a flaw either way, it can never be perfect. But ultimately the doctor is there to do a job, it should be pretty obvious to him if its obscuring the fighter in such a way he can't continue. I don't think the onus should be on the boxer to dictate whether he carries on or stops depending on his situation - the ref and the doc in tandem should be strong and it will help eliminate that problem.

Flukeing a headbutt and getting stoppage is just wrong on every level, at least with the above a fighter has "earnt" the win to some extent. The line between accidental and purposeful can be very hazey, the rule sends out a poor message.
