As we all know Tavoris Cloud is scheduled to defend his IBF light heavyweight title against The Road Warrior on August 7th. Glen has been very active. He has fought 5 times in the same time period that Cloud fought once in. This is Cloud's first defense, and indeed, his first fight since he beat Clinton Woods in August of last year. Is Cloud's inactivity going to cost him this fight?
I think people are writing Johnson off too quickly, I think Cloud will take it but Glen is a wily old fighter & Tavoris is still somewhat green. Never underestimate the tricks that Johnson has up his sleeve. Cloud with a close, slightly controversial MD is my pick at this point in time
I think Johnson might spring an upset. The Woods that faced Johnson in three razor thin fights would have beat Cloud.... his jab gave him lots of trouble, especially when followed with the right hand immediately behind it. Johnson's chin is comparable to Clinton's, I'd be surprised if Cloud got him out.
Can't disagree with a word you said! I could be grabbing at straws here because I'm a Glen Johnson fan. However, on the surface it looks like Cloud may be treating Johnson like a tune up, and that is not a good idea if you're Cloud:nono
There was a visible drop in Johnson in the Dawson rematch. Also when he beat Mack he honestly admitted his age has caught up with him. The old Johnson isn't fighting Cloud, just an old Johnson. Cloud should win but I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't.:bbb
I also thought I noticed a difference in Johnson from the first Dawson fight to the second. Have to agree with ya on that one.
Inactivity is Cloud's only disadvantage. He should get the win over the highly experienced Johnson and I'm hoping to see him go for the KO!
I've considered it and I think people are writing off Johnson too easily. Here's the thing, after Johnson was blown out by Dawson in their second fight(which was MUCH closer on the scorecards than it should have been), people were already writing him off. Some said he would lose to Yusaf Mack. Sure enough, he goes out there and TKO's Mack in the 6th round. He's not quite the pit bull he once was throwing over 1000 punches every fight marching forward, you could tell in his last fight with Mack that he's lost a step. However, he's still too good to be taken lightly. He has more advantages than activity compared to Cloud. He also has a HUGE advantage in experience as well as his chin (I don't think anyone knows what Cloud's chin is like but it's likely not as sturdy as Johnson's). Having said all of that, I still think Cloud will win the fight, probably on a decision. This will be Cloud's stiffest test and he hasn't faced someone who will walk forward and pick most of his punches off in his gloves and then have that sturdy chin behind it. Cloud wins it. Another thing, I don't think Cloud's treating this like a tune-up. Prior to getting the belt he said in interviews that he really wanted to fight Johnson because he loved the way he fights and felt he was a hell of a fighter. Plus, he's been able to get up and show in shape for lesser opponents...he'll be ready.
It ain't gonna help him, that's for sure. You'd be hard-pressed to name another fighter whose career has been more poorly mis-managed than Cloud's. I personally think Cloud is going to gas in this fight, and Glen will knock him out.
Why anyone expects glenn to win this i dont know. he had 1 good year in his career. i rate him as a fighter but he just doesnt win big fights
