Cloud pushes for Hopkins fight

I agree. Could be pretty one sided.

Cloud should be careful what he wishes for

 

B-Hop would school Cloud, who only has one gear, he's a decent puncher but too one-route for B-Hop. Pascal also has the beating of Cloud IMO.

I like Cloud, his win over Gonzalez is very underrated IMO, but Woods showed that with a consistent jab you can dissuade him. B-Hop is too wiley, too tough, and too scientific.

Give it a year and Cloud will stop him, I saw Bernards legs stiffen too much for my liking, but then again he is knocking on the door of 50. Without a doubt a top 50 ATG, he demontrates skill against opponents that should beat him at this stage, as well as being a top 5 160lber (arguably, you could make a case for Giardello/Tiger/Walker over him, but I have it 1.Greb 2. Hagler 3. Monzon >>>4. Hopkins)

I said beforehand that I felt B-Hop knew he'd have to dig in to get the job done against Pascal. It was a good middle ground between the Hop that beat seven shades of **** outta Glencoffe and the Hopkins the casuals fall asleep watching in recent years.

He's one tough scientist. Old school til the end, any era and Hop would prosper.

 

I was more suprised with pascal than hopkins at the weekend. Being hounded and outpunched by a guy that age was pretty wild. Maybe he lost it in the build up but from the opening bell he gave up the center of the ring. He could hurt bhop but he still would not show enough aggression to raise the tempo of the fight. BHop not a big puncher, Pascal great chin yet he was timid in there. The bodyshots made it all the sweeter for x late. Cloud is a decent fighter but he looks raw at times. If he can take his licks during the early round schoolings without losing his soul, he might empty the veterans tank late if he keeps the punches going. Cloud has shown heart previously but he has never been faced with anything like x before. Mentally the old man is incredible.

 

Great idea, much better than Scheaffer pushing too hard and the WBC stripping Pascal.

 

Pascal has fought in spurts since the Froch fight. Same against Dawson, he wasn't all-out aggression throughout. Pascal is durable, but doesn't have an iron chin IMO. He can be stunned. B-Hop saw this and thought: 'this is my kinda' guy'. I said this beforehand, Hopkins takes fights he knows he can formulate a plan for, which he's within his right to do at his age IMO.

Although why he didn't see that with Dawson, who B-Hop would not have lost a round to IMO, I don't know, especially considering the old mans prowress against southpaws. That kid takes time off left-right-and centre.

 

Don't make figures up. There was no real push for a Dawson fight other than from a few hardcore fans.

I'd need to go back, but Dawson wasn't interested in Hopkins after he lost to Calzaghe. Calzaghe wasn't interested in Dawson since he was looking for a big payday. There was no money in a Dawson fight.

Dawson needed to go to Canada to face Pascal because he brings nothing to the table. That hasn't changed.

 

There was no upside to a Dawson fight. Dawson has no fans, no real money in him and, now, nothing special to take away.

 

God help him. But good on him though! Better to be over ambitious than not at all. I'd like to see the fight.

 

I know what you mean about him fighting in spurts but he didn't even "spurt" as often as he usually does!
I think they clocked him averaging 30 punches a round which is **** poor (even by his standard)

 

Anyones standards are **** poor when against an operator like B-Hop :deal

 

I think Calzaghe was down to 60 per round against him...... against Kessler and Lacy he was clocking up 90.

The 90 is especially impressive against Kessler, bearing in mind he was losing the battle pretty clearly early on.

 

Pascal's work-rate has seemingly been worse at 175 than in the Froch fight. I'd have to watch a few more fights of his at 168 to see if this is a general trend but there could be something in it.

At the moment, to me, he's like a worse version of David Haye. He likes to keep on his fight, hit the angles, and then explode into life with a burst of handspeed particularly the left hook and overhand right to surprise his opponent. His counterpunching is decent too. Which isn't an awful thing, but he hasn't got the power Haye has and the drop off in pace against Hopkins makes Haye look like Greb.

 

Thing is, they were flurries. He couldn't even land the slaps against B-Hop.

Hopkins, I'm telling ya know, I might be half-cut with a fit ass Thai bird hanging off me, but he is one of the best scientists I have ever come across. A genuine ATG, this 'draw' does a lot for his legacy (amongst those that are not Boxrec analysts anyway)

I said beforehand, he has a few **** fights (or rather, underwhelming performances) then he digs in, and I said when this fight was announced, he wlll dig in, and he did.
