In order to help build to a potential fight with Dawson, Shaw said he offered Cloud's team a deal under which Cloud would fight on HBO's Dawson-Johnson II televised undercard with the guarantee that if Cloud and Dawson, 26, both won, Dawson's next defense would come against Cloud on HBO, which had approved the plan.

Shaw said Cloud's team turned it down, even though Cloud would have made "way more money" under that plan that he will now by fighting for a vacant belt without HBO's backing.

"The networks aren't interested in Cloud and he would be a step down for Chad at this point in his career," Shaw said. "But we were willing to fight him under that deal. Cloud's people turned it down. To me, Cloud's people are mismanaging his career and not doing what is best for him. He may get a title shot, but so what if he's not making any real money? The exposure and money on HBO two times in a row would be way better for him, so in my mind it wasn't a good business decision for Cloud. Chad will go on with his career."

They're not mismanaging him, he's not ready for Dawson yet. Let him get this title and make a defense or two and then fight Dawson.

    Who against?

What do the IBF do with Woods, who they gave an eliminator?

    More bull****.

Dawson couldnt get out of the rematch clause, The injury after that held it up even more, I cant blame him, but to put it on Cloud is pathetic.

Funnily enough, this works out fine for HBO though. Dawson goes and takes care of Johnson later in the year. Cloud gets the IBF belt and defends it. And all of a sudden they have a fight in early next year between the current and former IBF holders, who are both Undefeated and American. Brilliant.

Cloud should get paid decently in a fight with Woods. Hell, Woods in England is probably a bigger draw than Dawson in the US, and he'd be headlining the event there, plus he stands a better chance of actually winning. Seems like a win-win situation for both Dawson and Cloud to me.

    That's the key phrase.
    Shaw said.
That's as credible as a 7 dollar bill.

I wonder what the real story is since Shaw has a history of overprotecting his fighters i.e. no Donaire rematch for Darchinyan.

The truth has a way of rising to the surface.

I like that idea by shaw. Cloud vs Dawson will happen guaranteed if Cloud accept the offer to fight on Dawson vs Johnson rematch and if Cloud and Dawson wins their seperate fights, they will guarantee fight each other on hbo. Some people that is bashing shaw need to think twice.

Dawson's only got the Johnson fight left on his current HBO deal. I've got a sneaking feeling the buzz about him dropping to 168 will mean a change back to Showtime, who essentially has a monopoly on that division. After the Johnson rematch, there are no identifiable names at 175 with any value because HBO hasn't tried to build up any as a legit rival for Dawson.

Cloud? He has one notable fight and even less exposure than Dawson's got, and he hasn't even fought in like a year. If he beats Woods, so what? Chad just used a year of his prime clearing up 2 fights with a guy who came off of beating Woods. If Chad really wants to be P4P, he'll move to where the real action is once he gets this rematch out of the way. :deal

That could've been some big exposure for Cloud, his team could've possibly worked out a deal to have Cloud on the undercard without the guarantee to face Dawson if they just wanted some big exposure.
