No the 1st page people are talking like always acting like MMA doesnt require talent and ****. As somebody whos done both theres a reason ive stuck with MMA its not nearly as boring to do and of course its more of a challenge.
More than anything it takes a willingness to get into the ring. Half of these dudes are SHITTY fighters.Former high school wrestlers who learn to strike and submit and within 3 months they are pro "cage fighters". Not enough GSP's in MMA.
Well I wont deny there are some shitty strikers in MMA but same goes in boxing **** dude come on look at Hartley and Zelenoff :-( They would get KOed by mid level MMA standup guys and brutally. Atleast in MMA you dont have to be very good in any standup form to be a contender.
Yeah but Hartley and Zelenoff arent being featured on CBS are they! They also arent being called "some of the greatest athletes on Earth" the way these MMA commentators keep repeating.
The thing that stands out most GLARINGLY to me, is the guys records. Kimbo is an extreme example I know, but he's the main event fighter on a "break thru" to mainstream TV night, and he's in his 3rd damn fight. Alot of others (I admit to having limited knowledge of MMA), seem to have less than 10-15 fights and are usually batting like .500 on the shows I've seen.
Given that before this week he probably didn't know jack **** about the sport, I'd say Gus Johnson did a pretty decent job. He sure blew Fran Charles' B.A.D effort out of the water. Why they were climbing up Frank Shamrock's ass all night after Cung Le just broke him in half, I didn't understand.
Why they were climbing up Frank Shamrock's ass all night after Cung Le just broke him in half, I didn't understand.[/quote] I was thinking the same thing.
did you all see when the camera went to the nose bleed section for a view? thats when kimbo was on his back. I knew there was no way EAR man was going to win, any other fight would have been stopped after those 10-15 elbows to kimbos skull and kimbo did not offer anything in return. commentators " well guys how do you have the fight so far "? " uh,uh,... "
Well I'm not Frank Shamrock fan, but what he did in his prime was pretty impressive, but it was a while ago. His best years were 94-99.
That's got nothing to do with it being an MMA show. It's entirely based on the fact that CBS is hoping to hit a home run with EliteXC, so they'll sell the **** out of it. It's based on the fact that Gary Shaw's ass is dug in deep and he needs CBS to shill the **** out of the show. It's about ratings and trying to get an audience and keep it for 2+ hours.
Be careful.... Gus Johnson is a kickass announcer, who didn't completely suck doing MMA for the first time. Be easy there...
The Mayweather comparison was a reach for the non-fans to be able to relate to something............and the little guy with the glasses always comes off like a pro-wrestling announcer............Shamrock and the other guy were good
Dana didn't take the CBS deal becasue he said it was brutal, I think Shaw took it because it's his only shot at becoming legit. Don't be surprised if Elite XC isn't around next year.
