A new series will be up soon on thesweetscience.com. I'm figuring it'll be right up the ESB Classic alley. It's in 9 parts including the introduction (which has just been submitted to the editor) The title is... This content is protected His real name, what the story was with the variations of his name, his actual birthdate (everybody has it wrong), origins, ethnicity (Cuban? Puerto Rican? Black American?), when his professional career actually began, his stylistic strengths and weaknesses, controversies during his career (including Oakland Billy Smith), his series against the great Holman Williams, and importantly, where he is now will all be unveiled - This is Cocoa Kid's comeback. Stay tuned. This content is protected
Greatly anticipating this. He's always been one of the most difficult fighters for me to get a handle of.
Can't wait for this. The few times we've talked about his story it's been a bit fascinating, be nice to get deeper into it.
He ain't easy and not a few boxing historians have their own theories about who he was. The good news about this is that it ain't another theory to send up and see if it floats. For me, the better news is that Cocoa Kid gave a helluva narrative. Right before the research began, I was set to let it go if it couldn't at least rival Jack Chase's story or if I couldn't find anything that ends the mystery.

Nice always wanted to learn more about him after Ring Magazine featured him in a ranking of top Puerto Rican boxers of all time. I believe he was featured at number 7 or number 8 between Rosario and Basora. Was really intrigued by his success against Williams.
Have you got an interview, and if so is he saying 'I threw every fight I didn't win' If hes alive he must be getting on to a 100 now
Yes, that's because he is, you're not wrong or suffering in isolation. Nobody even knows who he is, how much did he dive, how the **** did he dominate Holman Williams without being better than Charley Burley? So far everyone uneasily writes this off as a style advantage I guess. It's going to be fun to see what our man comes up with. Did he say "nine parts"?
There's not a few who believe that -as you probably know. Werther Arcelli told Dan Cuoco that Cocoa Kid and SRR were the two best fighters he ever faced and that if Cocoa Kid lost, it was either because he 'had to' or he got a bum decision.
