Billy Conn. I'm sitting here looking at his biography "Sweet William." The fact that I'm looking at a biography, and know of others as well makes his chances or his need for it a bit less. That being said, he's got good sub-stories and there is juice in any number of them....Others I've spoken to have mentioned Bert Lytell. I've been considering Al "Red" Priest since he was outta Cambridge, MA and it would be easier.
You got to get away from the Row for now I think, and get your full on microscope out. Conn is perfect. Sure there are bio's but I bet they zip from his early days through to the Louis fights as fast as they can. What we need is someone to tell us what happened in those middle years where he fought some of the toughest opposition in boxing history for which he never gets the credit he deserves - even on this forum! He's ripe for the pickings for the right man. But point taken.
You could even exclude the Louis fights Just tell us about the really good fighters he beat . Which, once he found his stride, is all of them. He's a top 20 fighter waiting to be discovered, I swear it.
I wouldn't bother with the Louis fights anyway, man, except to end it with that fight looming ominously, you know?I'll look into it -'see if there's a spark. What about you? When is Part 2 of "Welcome To Hell"?
I was thinking about that today. I'm busy on Sunday and on Monday so I will rattle it up on Friday night and Saturday morning probably. So it'll be done by Monday night at the latest.

S,McGrain came up with a perfect choice for your next project. Billy Conn : what a story to tell ,growing up, worshiping Harry Greb, along with Gene Kelly, the great dancer ,also out of Pittsburgh... As a youngster,I was a fan of Frank Graham, the great sportswriter. He in an article favored young Billy Conn over Ray Robinson, were they to have met because Graham was so impressed with young Conn's tough, tough competition, Billy faced and beat, coming up as a young fighter. Billy had a BRAVE manager...Conn's story is waiting for U...
