That's outstanding investigative journalism in fact. Obviously you wouldn't have to know lick one about boxing to write that piece but you would need to be a very, very good investigator. I know a couple of guys who piece together lines to settle estates and I know how hard what you have done can be I think, and that's exceptional work. There are a handful of guys who have gone before you that have had a real run at this and come nowhere near to what you've accomplished. That's the type of outstanding research that echoes throughout the ages. In a hundred years time boxing historians will still be trying to correct you.
Well you know what Otty and Rosenfeld have done. Otty especially. They are both special guys. Stonie's mopped the floor with em (though I bet he'd find the comparison distasteful).
Did they try to get a handle of Cocoa? I mean in more depth than as a Burley opponent? What did they turn in as a result?
Thanks !! Great !! That´s the reason why I learn English at the first place (boxing stuff like this one, read things like this)...... looking forward to this.....
Not a problem. I believe that Burley was the best of the bunch. As to the rest, I'd have to really sit down and sort them out. All that research that went into this series will help me/us discern where Cocoa Kid stands but I believe that he is near the top of that murderous set.
This will give you a good summation of some of the theories out there: http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=49570
That's a nice surprise. No one knows how I suffer over every !#$% sentence. The part that reads "whose mansion stretched to heaven over on Simpson Road" originally read "whose mansion loomed like a dream over on Simpson Road." -and I like that too but changed it because there were too many "like"s around it. Anyway, thanks. Small things matter.
Yeh, the Murderer's Row is hell to rank. This is an odd thing, do you have nay explanation for it. 1. A former Connetticut promoter who worked with Cocoa Kid and is still alive, claims the Kid was Cuban. 2. A three way call to Wes Ramey Jr. whose father knew Cocoa Kid well, also brought the statement that Cocoa was Cuban.
Those guys on that thread are no jokes. They know their stuff and those theories are good ones. Read the series and then decide for yourself who's right.
Yeh, I seen who was posting. Some really sharp minds. I guess I'll just have to wait to read your research presented.
Always noticed "Cocoa Kid" Conn middle who fought Hagler in 70s. U figure his Mgr/Trainer were re-naming him in honor of the original? Anybody know?
