Carlos Ortiz was there to receive on his behalf, he said he had never heard of him, the crowd laughed, and it was over.

Terrible tribute to a great fighter.

We must hope it doesn't happen to Carlos in another 30 years or so.

Why would they call someone who had never heard of him to take a tribute on his behalf. Tyson would probably know about him

They probably thought that since they're both Rican, he'd make a fitting tribute. Big mistake.

Can't believe there was no family of Cocoa Kid there.

That's terrible. Ortiz comes across as bitter in the arc of boxing book as well. Shame, I loved him on Latin Legends.

    What a **** to say that :-(

Thought Cocoa Kid was a Cuban immigrant though? Did CK have family? I need to read Stonehands biog of him.

Bad news that, very ignorant I've gotta say. Maybe he just didn't know and it he was just caught out out ie not told about it till the last moment but he should of at least tried to wing it.

I and others tried to contact officials at the IBHOF about who would be inducting Cocoa Kid. I specifically asked if any of Cocoa Kid's relatives or anyone who knew him were scheduled to do a tribute, and if none were, that I would be happy to do so myself.

    No ever responded.

Cocoa Kid deserved a worthy tribute, not jokes. God knows he sacrificed more than any other fighter, short of those who died in the ring.

I offered to do it myself because of the fear that he would be disrespected with either silence or inaccuracy.

It turned out to be worse. Although I'm going to wait for all of the information, I'm ready to start swinging right the hell now.

I spoke with the great Carlos Ortiz Wednesday night and he is a true gentleman -very sharp and very courteous.

It wasn't his fault in the least. Right now, it looks very much to be the fault of the unprofessional brass at IBHOF.

Yup, I was in the audience. I found it kind of humorous because that's the type of guy Ortiz is but it was indeed disrespectful.

Buffer's speech was the best of them all, was almost a half hour long but amusing and entertaining the whole time.
