I actually do exactly that for a living for the other major codes. I've spent the last 2 years talking to every trainer, fighter, promoter for the Boxing show The Sweet Science. I know what fighters are paid, what they used to be paid and more importantly what Fox used to pay for its big cards before Fenech offered to do them for free.

I wrote the post to see if there was genuine interest in reviving the Aussie belts and the response from all forums has been positive.

The ANBF is the key body to move things forward as they control the belts and I am building a pretty good relationship there.

We've seen what the NRL and AFL have done with their history this year. Well boxing celebrates its 200th birthday in 2014 and never drew the color line in this country. Realistically other sports did not integrate until the 1960's so we have a rich, proud, multicultural history albeit wth its warts but undeniably a positive thig. And once you rebuild the status of the titles people will be interested in the history of their belts, who came before them etc.

I would be more inclined to PPV a decent Lonsdale Belt bout rather than pay to see Wlad paw his way through 12 rounds v some bloke whos promoter has wangled his fighter to the top of the rankings , its true the Australian & Commonwealth Titles and Belts do have a long and proud history , ive always maintained that any lad on the way up should follow the old timers route Ie Domestic,Commonwealth ,European then IF sucsesful he will be @ World Level , far too many get a shot these days @ these alphabet belts without having the basic grounding , this is not just an Aussie problem its world wide . here in the UK we have the added bonus of fighting for the European title if sucsessful @ commonwealth level thats why our fighters go into world title fights better prepared than most .

It has to happen and it will. I wrote that piece to see if there was any life in the Australian titles and there is. People believe in them which is enough for me. The key is to get the ANBF off in the direction of packaging up the titles for a free to air broadcaster. After i've met the free to air guys I am going to high altitude over Christmas to hatch the masterpiece. Until then I'm going to keep collecting opinions and views.

Everybody is boxing from mums boxersizing in parks from every AFL, League and A-League team doing boxing for training. Ringside seats at big fights are still $5000. Long term its a no brainer.

I agree with all that boxing is huge, but there a different it is all money and hope these networks are ready to get burnt by fighters and big tv networks around the world, because a fighter will go with the money and Australia is small potato's in the big time money factors, I hope this happens like you are saying, because I'm a hard core fight fan and Know about the sport and how it works and it would be good for the sport.

Of the 45 countries listed on Boxrec as being consistent pro boxing countries I would list them as follows as far as commercial power.

    1. USA
    2. Germany
    3. UK
    4. Japan
    5. Mexico
    6. Australia
    7. Canada
    8. Phillipines
    9. Thailand
    10. Korea/South Africa

I read in another thread that Channel 10 has committed to a medium term coverage of fights in multiple states.

Who would have dreamed this at the start of 2008, particularly cards which do not involve Mundine?

When someone has been so sick for so long its difficult to accept that the vital signs are improving and that the doctors have moved the death clamps from beside the bed to other more needy patients.

    Exactly !!

Boxing has a village mentality, & if ever the medical critics were right about one thing, it's the effects that a career in the ring has had on aspirants that try to run it.

I know these are harsh words but what else can you say about a sport that has sat stubbornly in a rut that they dug, & continue to make deeper.

There is a report on another forum about Barry Micheal & an associate that have lifted the level of promotions.
They use an upmarket venue & really competitive opponents & I understand that they sold 80 tables at an average of $2000 each, & they were all gone 3 WEEKS before the event.

If that doesn't tell us something, we're ****ing stone deaf.

    Good point!

It's all about entertainment these days. Put on a good show in a good venue - build it and they will come!
