Cody Crowley born 03-25-1993 is a 5'10 Welterweight/Light Middleweight with a 20-0 9 KO's record. Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada and fighting out of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Cody's had a long hard path to boxing success. He started out as a hockey player, hockey is quite well known in his neck of the woods, I mean, Wayne Gretzky even got his start with the Peterborough Petes when he was 15. So it seemed like a given, but was a little too hefty and he got bullied when he was younger, which prompted him to take up kickboxing to get in better shape. But his kickboxing skills kind of sucked so bad, he lost to a chick, so he bailed. Eventually because he was a gym rat already, and always in shape, he was looking for a way to turn that into career, so he made his way to boxing, found the perfect match and that's what stuck. After a nondescript amateur career, he hopped on a plane, headed to Vegas, and got the crap beaten out of him in gyms, felt humiliated, so he bailed again and went home. Got fat again, started drinking and doing drugs, completely fell apart. He turned into a schlub that sat on the couch and watched TV. Finally his girlfriend gave him the boot in the ass he needed, so he got sick and tired of being a bum, so he saved up the money and he headed back to Vegas, promised to fully dedicate his life to the sport of boxing, and not look back until he was a success. Well, he turned pro at 21, worked out non stop, eventually became a sparring partner for Money Mayweather, and worked his way into getting a spot on the televised undercard of Donaire-Gaballo on Showtime, and goddamnit, all that hard work and dedication, finally paid off 9 years later at the age of 30, when he took the 0 of highly touted, even by me, Uzbek prospect Qudratillo Abduqaxorov, in one of the bigger upsets of 2021... an upset I predicted. Why did I pick him for the upset? Aside from seeing him a few times a little while back when I was considering doing a thread on him, I managed to catch his fight against Josh Torres back in 2020 on eh Ugas vs. Ramos undercard. His relentless come forward style he'd sharpened up to near perfection, and he pitched a shutout in dominant fashion. So when you see a southpaw, who controls range well, with good balance, sharp jab, great output, great stamina, who never stops coming, with a beautifully sharp straight left, along with decent head movement and a solid chin. That means he's going to be a problem for quite a few fighters, especially someone who arguably doesn't have the power to deter him, who rarely gets pressed with a so so gas tank. Granted, Cody isn't a one hitter quitter, but I wouldn't call him a featherfist either. If the match with Abduqaxorov been a 12 rounder, he'd have most likely gotten the stoppage. How far can this fire and burning passion take him? What could his ceiling possibly be? Personally, I think he's capable of pulling quite a few more upsets. He's quite large for 147, not what I'd call a weight bully, but bordering on it. That coupled with his chin, (and yes he went down in the Abduqaxorov match, but that was because he was bending down and got caught, causing him to fall off balance, so no big deal) and his tenacious will to win could take him quite far.
