Coincidence That Vitali Quit Right After Byrd Bashed Him Up, Clowned and Rocked Him?

My scorecard when i watched this fight again last year.

    Chris Byrd vs Vitali Klitschko

    1 Vitali
    2 Vitali
    3 Byrd
    4 Vitali
    5 Byrd
    6 Byrd
    7 Vitali
    8 Vitali
    9 Byrd
10 Vitali doesn't come out for the 10th round

    86-85 Vitali

A competitive fight all the way through, at no point in this fight did Vitali ever dominate. This myth that Vitali was dominating every round up until the stoppage, is the same type of bogus myth that Nunn dominated every round vs Toney both are false narratives.

That’s NOT a “False Narrative” Lol Vitali definitely hit Byrd with flush right hands that caused Byrd to open his mouth and make those stupid noises to try and act like he didn’t get hit.

And you brought up the punch stats… whose shots landed harder and had more effect??? Exactly. There’s a reason Vitali was ahead on the official judges scorecards AND in the eyes of the vast majority who have watched that fight.

It is a false narrative at no point in the fight was Vitali dominating Byrd, or "cracking Byrd left and right" as you claimed. The fight was a tactical affair which Vitali edged early on, but by the 2nd half of the fight Byrd was coming on, and was able to back up Vitali hitting him with straight left hands.

No one is denying that Vitali wasn't ahead in the fight, but he certainly wasn't dominating Byrd at any point in the fight. Byrd was in the fight the whole way through and was coming on in the 2nd half of the fight.

I had this debate with another member on this forum, he also thought Vitali had dominated Byrd. I asked him to rewatch the fight and he was surprised how competitive it was, i'm telling you it's a long running myth like the Toney/Nunn fight that Vitali dominated Byrd. I guarantee if you watched it again i think you'll be surprised, that Byrd was pretty competitive with Vitali the whole way through.

Vitali was whipping him. Too bad his shoulder tore. They should have had a rematch but I suspect Byrd had enough of the Klits after Wlad laid that beating on him in the second fight.

Another beautiful false narrative is that Vitali was winning vs Lewis when the fight got stopped and that he deserved to be ahead on some scorecards, that it was a bad stoppage and that Vitali deserved a rematch.

    1. Lewis strategy was to make the fight a dogfight like he said and did and Vitali sure as hell wasn't up for having such a fight vs Lewis.
    2. Anyone scoring the fight objectively would have had Lewis a point or two ahead at the time of the stoppage.
3 and 4. It was very good for Vitali's health that the fight got stopped and a rematch never happened.

    5. How Vitali didn't have it in him to pass the torch and fight take on the most dangerous fighter in the division a certain Mr Fury was just shameful. I guess Lewis shouldn't have given Vitali an opportunity or nonono sorry now I remember the wbcorrupt ordered the fight, like that really has something to do with anything.

Wladdy would have just gotten dimantled by Ibeabuchi or by Tua. A prime Vitali might have had the power, skill and ring IQ to beat Ibeabuchi but thanks to Ike we will never know.

Ike would have raped both Klitschko’s who would bow before the President.

I posted my scorecard for the fight. Vitali did not deserve to be behind Lewis at the time of the stoppage. In my opinion they both looked pretty poor, but I had Vitali ahead 58-56. Also I agree that it was a reasonable stoppage that Lewis earned.

I watched this fight for the 1st time recently and thought Vitali won 5 rounds clearly, whilst the other 4 were close and could have gone either way. Lederman had it 6-2 Vitali after 8, I'm unsure how he scored the 9th.

I agree with your description of the fight as competitive and don't take issue with anything you've posted.

Given Byrd was relatively light hitting for a modern HW and Vitali had, at worst, a solid chin, combined with the fact that you're scorecard is on the Byrd side of the average, yet you still have Vitali ahead, means I disagree with the premise of the thread title.

Vitali could have saw that fight out with no arms., thats how much of a KO threat Chris Byrd is to Vitali Klitchko.
