    Presumably, Kirk Johnson is not paying him to train him for no reason. Might there be a fight in the works?

    When he snapped his knee against Javier Mora two years ago.

    When a guy is training for this long, it usually means one of three things, doesn't it?

    1) Weight still up;
    2) Injury not healing properly;
    3) Matchmaker not finding a bout.

    Or maybe a combination of all of the above.

    If it's all of the above, I'd consider retiring. That's a big hill to climb at his age.

    Just because a guy's name comes up on a message board in what is basically a "where are they now?" thread doesn't mean he's got a fight lined up. I like Kirk Johnson but I'd rather him stay where he is. We've heard it all before about how he's gonna be a different fighter and how he's gonna do this and that but in the end it's always the same. His weight and his mentality have always been concerns. You are what you are. He's not gonna come back and surprise us by being a 230 lb., mentally tough fighter.

    That's a pretty harsh assessment of a guy who basically lost one fight legitmately.

    I don't know if he has a fight lined up; I just know that Cokes said on a different site that he's still training the man--so presumably he intends to step in the ring again at some point.

    I had this whole post written in response to you but I read it over and realized that I was just being even harsher. I've always been a Kirk Johnson fan and I feel bad about criticizing him further. He's a good guy and I hope that he can do something one day but I'm not waiting for it to happen.

    Kirk Johnson needs to push away from the table, and mix in some produce, before he thinks about fighting again.

    He had a great Career. We all can't be HOFers.

    I think his reputation is undeserved. He took the Vit Klit fight on too short notice and he should have passed. Consequently, people will forever judge him harshly. Otherwise, his only blemish is a bs dq against a highly exagerating Quiet Man.

    The fact is that he really only fought truly overweight for one fight in nearly 40 professional fights and that's all anyone ever says about him. I really just don't get the hate...

    I think part of the hate is that he, like some others, was not all that active when he could have been.
