COLIN HART Boxing’s new super-cruiserweight division is ‘sensible’ move

The absurdity of this division is that an in-shape Anthony Joshua and the version of Tyson Fury who fought Klitschko are both light enough to fairly comfortably cut weight and fight at 224. A 15-25lb cut for guys that big is considered child’s play in the UFC, for example. They wouldn’t of course, but the fact that the prototypical super heavyweights are within range of the lower division proves what a myth the whole thing is.

 

If there was the sense to totally review all weight divisions including some at lower weights which have just 3 pounds between them then ok. But nah just chuck in another division which means about another 10 belts across the 4 alphabet orgs.

Too many divisions and too many belts is just killing boxing.

 

I don’t hate this idea but If you think about it guys like Joshua could probably drain down to 225lbs and rehydrate back into the 240s. Then you’re back at giants beating up little guys again.

So basically at that point you’d have the fat heavies that can’t get in shape in one division (and that division would Essentially become a joke - a la butter bean era) and the wladimir kiltchko/AJ types still running around beating up small guys, being basically protected from guys like Fury.

think they should drop cruiser to 195lb and have a 215 division. That would make more sense.

also final point do we really want weight drained men getting hit in the head by guys who on the night weight in the 240s? Not for that.

It's not the worsed idea I guess, need to think more on this for now.

 

Imagine if a 205 pound guy came into boxing and destroyed everybody in the new division and the heavyweight division?

 

Another crazy thing is that if they did introduce a division below CW, Wilder could conceivably cut to that division to.

212-215lb Wilder is the same weight as guys like Paolo Costa who fight at 185

No it’s not. Just up the weight of current cruiser. If they make this weight it will be one of the most overlooked and spare weight class.

The money is at heavy weight. Cruiser is already if no interest. Adding another weight for the same group of guys so they can go up in weight and collect another trinket will be of little interest.

 

If they really wanted to make those fights now and the fighters wanted it , what the hell is stopping them doing it right now in the heavyweight division? They all wanna be the heavyweight champion not supercruiser weight champ. A super cruiserweight belt ain't gonna stop Usyk or Wilder from wanting to be heavyweight champ.
