Hart is 100% right, in bad taste or not. He's a mediocre writer, certainly not as good as McIlvanney, McCrae or Houston, but what do you expect in The Sun?

They are great journalists but poor at actual reporting.

Colin Hart is spot on in this article I don't understand the stick he's getting to be honest.

I said after the Lazcano fight he was done only to be laughed at by some of Hatton's fan boys on here. His punch resistance was never going to be tested against Mailignaggi.

I will admit I did fall into the trap of believing the hype though and thought he could beat Pacman providing he got through the first 6 rounds.

He should definitley retire though no doubt.

Those who slag off Colin Hart show their utter ignorance. He is 100 per cent right.

Ricky has millions now, and good luck to him. Only ego, the desire to remembered in his last fight as a winner, would drive him back into the ring. But that is a dangerous vanity.

If you read this Ricky, or any of your camp..... for what it is worth, I remember being at the MEN when you beat Kostya Tszyu. That night was wonderful, and that was what I remember you for. Not losing to Mayweather or Pacquiao, because then you were on the slide. But against Tszyu.....that was the night Ricky Hatton was in his prime. What has come since has been fun. It has lined a pocket or two, and has included the Vegas experience, but the harsh truth is that you were never going to be able to recapture what he produced that night in Manchester.

So now is the time to go, with the knowledge that you will always have a place in fight fans hearts.

Enjoy your money, you have earned it the hard way. But leave while you can still sign the cheques.

Colin's choice of words might be dramatic. But he has been in the sport for decades, and it would be foolish not to listen.

Its not "ignorant" to object when a boxing writer refers to a fighter signing his own suicide note if he fights again. That comment is crass and completely unnessarcery.

I agree with what the article is saying, Hatton should retire, but to come out with **** like that and back it up by spinning the Lazcano fight into something it wasn't is pretty poor journalism.

Ok point taken. The suicide note line is ott. But boxing is dangerous, as we all know.
And Ricky was poor against Lazacano (although you would never know it from the Sky commentary). Lazcano was hand picked as a light puncher who presented little threat, and anybody who says differently is being economical with the truth.
Hart's argument is basically the same as ours. What I object to is the views of some who patently do not understand the sport beyond cheering for their favourite fighter. Referring to Colin Hart (on other threads) as "a dinosaur" is pathetic. He is a man who counted the likes of Eddie Futch, Angelo Dundee, Bob Arum etc as personal friends. So saying his views are an irrelevance, simply because he has written boxing for upwards of 40 years, is just pathetic.
    That is my point.
And the bottom line is that Ricky leaves us fantastic memories. But it is time to go.
