well, as a Colin Hart hater I will risk a ban by saying he has hair like a Lego man and comes across as a billy bull****.

If I get bvanned for that then my faith in ESB is obviously unfounded

 

I actually think Hart makes some fair points. I think the main emphasis of the thread is that the media are making out that Haye has beaten the greatest HW ever rather than the biggest HW ever.

I too thought the fight was lacking in aggression (albeit because of the broken hand issue)

I also think that Joe Public has no idea how average Valuev was considered to be in boxing terms and the media have sensationalised the win because he's a huge man.

 

So you like FW because he gets fighters money? That doesn't really make sense.

How odd. Either he is ******ed or he thought Haye was inferior to every heavyweight title holder that has ever lived.

In which case he knows so little about boxing they should move him to writing the daily cartoon section.

 

I said if I was the father of a boxer I'd like him to go with Warren. I'm not a Dad, at the moment, but if I ever become one I suspect that I would prefer my son(s) to be involved in minium risk, maxinum reward fights. :deal

Fair point and I agree with you but much of our criticism of Warren comes from a fan's perspective. We just want to see the best fights.

 

I don't think Warren is as good a promoter as people claim.

He has had a golden opportunity to actually promote his fighters by sending them to the BunceLive events - so people actually know who the fighters are - but because of a personal issue (his only, not his fighters) they weren't permitted to go :-(

What a fantastic job he did with Amir Khan as well..... dispelling the myth that he won't fight punchers by sticking him in with an unknown Colombian on the advice of a trainer who he had only just met without seeing the guy in action

 

You said you like him, then said the above. I thought you meant for that reason. I think he's likable, but is he really a great promoter. Having great resources is one thing, but does he really drive home who his fighters are, are his bills just generally one prospect against a journeyman or a poorly prepared domestic name.

Boxing is full of boxers who don't box, trainers who can't train and promoters who don't promote. Oh and managers who don't manage. :thumbsup

Dean Powell is a clever guy, he's a personal trainer and he knows that for an athlete to perform optimally they need to be peaking, it isn't possible to train properly at 2-3 weeks notice. You need to train your muscles and lungs etc to competition fitness, plus make the weigh safely.

By catching a name like for example Cello Renda or Paul Samuals at short notice and making the fight over 8 rounds he gives the prospect, that knows their going to fight, a massive advantage.

And when alls said and done all that matters is the name on the record and the W.

 

Agree with that to some extent. I have always been a firm believer in the '20 to learn, 20 to earn' philosophy.
