Nobody ever talks about Jones who I feel was a hell of a fighter. The man had crunching power in BOTH hands and was very patient. I feel Jones would have beaten Honeyghan and been too strong for Hatton.Yet I never hear Jones name mentioned at all.Its a shame because punch for punch he's got to be on the list as one of the hardest punching Welterweights in history.
yeah class fighter. shame he was cut short against curry. had 2 close fights with milton mccrory. mccrory was a poor man's tommy hearns, but no shame in that. :yep i was watching some of the mccrory 2nd fight the other day. i'll stick the rest of it on later. :bbb
i think mccrory does enuff in the 2nd fight. 1st fight is more debateable. jones was just a little too european in style. too much on the stiff side. if he had hatton's balance and workrate, he would have been very special i think. :bbb
Awful pun Jones was a fine fighter, always liked the two Laing fights (boy did Kirkland never learn from his mistakes). I never criticize a fighter for retiring early, but it would of been nice to of seen a summer 85 fight between Jones and that up and comming Honeyghan fella.
prime curry was a beautiful thing. :yep jones was just warming up though. always a slow starter was colin.
pound for pound well up the ring magazines hardest punchers list.actually if you watch the curry fight although curry was in great form jones holds his own in there and gets off some good shots of his own especially downstairs.it's just that he sustained a very deep gash to his nose and they wouldn't let it go on.jones got stronger as fights went on and i think it could have been interesting.
I thought he won the first and probably lost the second to McCrory, there was no way he was going to beat Curry though. Great fighter, does anyone know what he's doing now?
