What did you guys score it?

We all know it ended in a draw, but who did you think won it?

Personally i scored it a draw at the time, but still think Jones should have got the nod....

I actually scored that a draw. Jones just wouldn't throw punches. At least in the first half of the fight. Even in the second half, he was far too reticent with his output. Winnable fight for him, he just didn't do enough.

I think this is a good fight 2 bring up on the forum since it was pretty good and rarely gets mentioned, but it's been forever since I've seen it, I would have 2 watch it again 2 be able 2 say.

I’m also in the camp that scored it a draw at the time. Haven’t watched it in ages but I don’t think either side could argue that the decision was out of line.

Same here, but if Milton had repaired himself right, and taken care of business, wouldn't be a draw in the first place.

Sal, the first time I saw this was live on TV back in the day and I screamed myself hoarse when Jones hurt Milt. I believe I too had it a draw then. But now, without the adrenalin rush as a fan, I see McCrory taking it. Here is what I wrote when i scored it recently.

Milton McCrory v Colin Jones I

    Round 1: 10-9 MM
    Round 2: 10-9 MM
    Round 3: 10-9 MM
    Round 4: 10-9 MM
    Round 5: 10-9 MM
    Round 6: 10-9 MM
    Round 7: 10-10 Even
    Round 8: 10-9 MM
    Round 9: 10-9 Jones
    Round 10: 10-9 Jones
    Round 11: 10-9 Jones
    Round 12: 10-9 Jones

    Total: 116-113 McCrory

Actual scores were 116-114 Jones, 116-113 McCrory and 115-115 Draw for a 12 round Draw. Y'know, I liked Jones and always cheered for him, but he was infuriating to watch. He threw strictly one punch at a time. No combos, one jab, one right hook, one left hook. It was hard to be a fan of his. I knew Curry was going to rip him up, but he had a chance against McCrory, if he could have only strung a couple of punches together.

One thing is for sure, it was one of those that had a definite first half and second half, with a firm dividing line. One man took the first half, the other the second.

Sal, on my score, the contentious rounds on the first half/second half thing would be my rounds 7 and 8, which I just rewatched. Man, it's tight, dude. It seems in both rounds Jones does well enough and then shuts down the second half of the round. I still see the 7th round as even, but rewatching the 8th I can only go so far as to call that even also. I can't forget that McCrory really uses that ring to his advantage and has Jones just traipsing after him while popping away at him. So, second-guessing myself, which i don't like to do, I can only concede a score of 116-114 for McCrory. I'm just calling them the way I see them, and I don't even like McCrory.
