the collaspe today of US olympic boxer gary russel due to dehydration in trying to make weight just shows the danger frankie would've been in had he boiled down, props to terry edwards who took alot of flack and shame on malony calling for edwards to be sacked.

    Each case is individual :deal

Terry Edwards is not without fault - by refusing to allow fighters to have their own trainers and nutritionists etc with them. Perhaps this is not his decision, I don't know.

Gavin should never have been entered for the Lightweight division. We have a couple of very good fighters in that division who are good enough to qualify but due to incompetence on Terry Edwards behalf they get to miss out. Gav should have moved upto light welter if hhe wanted an Olympic place, he has struggled at the weight for so long that the only shock about the whole situation is that it was left to the last minute and for Gav to track all the way to Macau. Terry should resign, it may be an amature sport but you do not expect it to be amaturishly run.

in the world championships he had no weight problems and it was too late to enter him in light welter, i think since training with kerry kayes he put on alot of muscle, now if it was fat he could've burnt it off in a couple of hrs but muscle is heavy and can't be stripped of quickly

What happened to skill, speed, movement etc. These fighters try and bulk up too quickly, what happened to natural power.

I think a lot of this kerrry kayes **** is adding unecessary weight to fighters and just creating a more 'cosmetic' less functional boxer...
Look at hatton against collazo and especially money may,he was ripped and 'looked' great physically but was less effective.....Even hatton admits his natural weight is 140,and that the added muscle/bulk is not natural like it is for guys already at 147.....

Hatton looked awful against Collazo - he wasn't in good shape at all. He was in great condition for the Castillo and Mayweather fights though.

Well pulling him out was always the right decision from a health viewpoint.

However, they'd already ****ed up at that point. They should have forseen the situation months ago, and got him in at light welter, or failing that absolutely ensured he put on no lean muscle. They were with the guy all the time, there is no excuse.

Yep. He was great at the world championships but that was along time ago. Terry Edwards and Gavin should have looked at what weight his future lay at before putting him forward for the lightweight division and hoping for the best. I do recognise the explanation of Kerry Kayes adding too much muscle and weight but Terry Edwards is still in charge of the team and should be advising or warning Gavin of the move up in weight and how it will affect him at the Olympics. How long has Terry, Kerry and Gavin known that getting to the light weight limit would be too hard and dangerous and wtf was he doing up at light welter in the first place if the biggest event of his career was at the weight below.

I was under the impression that Kayes was only brought in once a weight problem had been recognised. Kayes was trying to take bulk off, not put it on.

Not to mention the fact that he doesn't bulk Hatton up, he boils him down.

Why do the amateurs dry out? They have to weigh In on the day of the fight don't they?

Spot on. Edwards is the top man and he must accept responsibility for this embarrassing debacle.

apparently the board people did not want 2 boxers fighting in the same weight so there was more chance of more medals. they wouldnt let frankie compete at light welter. so it said in the sun today in a interview with edwards
