Yeah it's not MMA but it's not trying to be. Trying to fill that hole where the causal fan hates 'all the gay ground stuff'. Theres a few hybrids going around like Combat JJ and this is just another to try to entertain combat fans.

Flame me all you want, but hands are a lot easier to learn to kicks/knees/elbows etc cause most guys grow up punching a bag or whatever. Unless you get into a martial arts with kicks it is completely foreign. Thisputs a lot of BJJ guys off going to MMA cause it takes so long to learn and defend, but with only punches you will get a lot more high level grapplers keen to fight IMO.

I know I much prefer training boxing with grappling over full MMA, cause there is only so many hours in the day to put into all the MMA aspects and to get legit at kicking means starting back at square one again.

    I think it;s a great idea.

I admire innovation and thinking outside the square, and I've been visualizing and attempted to get my head around Combat 8, and tried to be positive about it.

But my honest opinion is it's poorly conceived, won't prove anything we don't already know and won't appeal to enough people to succeed or survive.

I know it's selling itself as answering the 'boxing v MMA' question but anyone who thinks that that is still a relevant argument is little lost IMO.

So yeah, I'm not sure why they are trying to use that as such a major selling point. If you look at it as a pure entertaining combat sport I think it looks great.

More action on feet, no time wasted on the ground, but still with that 'little' bit more fight realism to it. I would have thought it would appeal to the masses a lot more than MMA cause unless you have an interest in BJJ most general punters hate the ground stuff.

I agree the chances of it surviving would be about a 5%.

Dam, thought we might agree on something for once Spider :(

I can understand it and don't have a problem it except the 30 seconds to finish a fight on the ground which doesn't feel very realistic. If you just had judges who were really quick to stand up fighters it would serve the same purpose IMO rather than some arbitrary time limit.

The 30 seconds is just ridiculous. Why don't these idiots change it to 30 seconds on the feet only and then force the boxer to the ground.:yep It's just nonsense for people like league fans who aren't truly "fight fans/combat fans".

Why don't they also make the fighters wear clown suits.

I'm a fan of both but if the MMA guy can't kick , Knee or elbow then it's not really MMA v Boxing is it ?

sounds **** and sounds like its run by crooks wanting to make a quick buck, and every boxer who participates is gonna go learn some BJJ defence behind closed doors, hell even James Toney survived longer on the bottom than 30 secs against randy

Like everyone has said terrible idea by me. Not MMA or Boxing just a mix of the two to live off the which is better.

Should just rename it grappling and punches.

Even guys on bully beatdown could survive a submission for 30 seconds, the reason you have the 5minutes rounds is because 3minutes isn't long enough for grappling exchanges.

Was going to post on this here but was too embarrassed because the style just looks so bad. The mods have moved this thread over saving me the trouble and the embarrassment.

Funny thing is I don't think this thread belongs here under MMA any more than it did under Boxing. Most appropriate home is probably the Lounge

    Don't really get it.:conf

It's basically an odd boxing match. I was watching the over excitable fellas in the promo clip and kind of zoned out when the white guy said "We've taken out knees and elbows, but we've taken these two elements away to create something much better, much more entertianing for the fans!":rofl

Maybe it's just me but aren't elbows and knees what makes stand up striking excititing and explosive!

    This was classic:

"Boxing has the ring, MMA has the Octagon"

"We have the cube, the sweet spot in the centre"
    WTF

Honestly trying not to be negative, but come on..............
