Yes Toney's chin is sterling, but he is a little lazy at times and Jones didnt have the highest workrate either. Mayweather's chin took clean shots from Castillo, Delahoya, Judah and took them I see boxing as an art/science that hit its peak in the 40s-50s and wasnt at such a high skill level prior to these times Another good 1 would be Mosleys physical ability with Duran's technical abilities
Good call. But I don't think any of them qualifies among the absolutely best offensive fighters of all time.
Could you post films of any of those? Would be great to see. My opinion is mostly based on his last fight with LaMotta, which generally is seen as one of his best perfomances, even though it wasn't at welter. I don't agree. I think he was a beautiful counter puncher.
joe calzage and kessler. Kessler is one of the best textbook punchers in the game mix that with JC's brain stamina flair and ability and chin and you have a man at 168 that i think could take on RJJ/Toney i do not know if they would beat RJJ/Toney but i think it would be close
Combine Young Griffos natural talent with any sort of work ethic and you have the greatest pound for pound fighter of his era. Give Tiger Flowers Harry Grebs chin and he could have been as great. Put Jack Blackburns brain in Joe Louis's body but let Joe keep his temprament and you have the ultimate heavyweight frankensteins monster.
Benny lynch minus alcoholism This doesn't really work unless you discount any flaws the fighters have.A combined toney jones could also be a weak chinned lazy fat fighter and waste of talent.
He was a beautiful counter puncher...don't get me wrong. But many times he put himself out of position with his defense to take advantage of counter opportunities more often.
Ok. Have to study hiim closer, because you might be right. Fighters with great defense have natural tendencies towards this in some cases... Anyway, it doesn't say anything against my initial post. A fighter with the offensive instincts and abilities of SRR combined with Whitaker's fantastic defense. I just don't see how this fighter can be beat.
Bernard Hopkins chin, technique, skills and longevity with Roy Jones Jr's pure athleticism, speed and power.
Whitaker and Duran. Both around the same height ane reach, also both were natural lightweights who moved up and won titles in another three divisions. While both were superb all round fighters, they had totally different styles.
I said this in a similar post a while back, but here it is again- DLH + Pryor- you get Pryor's speed, stamina, workrate, right, and slickness, and also get to keep DLH's jab, left hook, size, and marketability. Finally, you also get Panama Lewis (black bottle, unpadded gloves, etc.) in the corner- how is that not unbeatable?:good
Thomas Hearns/Roberto Duran Man oh man. Hearns, pretty much impossible to outdo from the outside. Duran an awesome infighter. Hearns slightly flawed defense gives way to Duran's brilliant anticipation and ability to roll with punches. Duran's 9.5/10 chin (body punch resistence too) and stamina. Duran's P4P strength is good. Hearns freakish combination of speed and power. SRR could not beat this blend, nor anyone else for that matter.
