It's been a while since I've been on here but have to ask this question not something that is a usual but has there ever really been a known comeforward fighter that could also move backwards? I think I've seen Dempsey do it against Willard on Film before going on the attack. What other fighters fit this mold?

If Julio Cesar Chavez fits your "coming forward fighters" type, then he could definitely move well backwards.

Joe Frazier hands down for the man who's gonna stalk you down nonstop.....
Backwards I believe Ali was the all time best at backin up and still causing damage..He dropped Cleveland Williams with a 1-2 basically runnin backwards

Ali wasn't a comefoward fighter he is a outboxer Frazier would fit the mold of a comefoward fighter or as we say swarmer. he wasn't much fighting backwards though he lasted a little longer when he fought backwards against Foreman but not something he excels in

TheSouthpaw is such a ****ing spastic :rofl

Jeff Fenech could do both. There are way too many examples though, hopefully there will be some good ones.

From those that can read, unlike TheSouthpaw.

duran deserves a mention. he did one way more than the other in his early career but in fights like moore, he was able to switch effortlessly

jersey joe walcott wasn't a come forward fighter but could transition well between attacker and counterpuncher

rocky marciano has occasionally surprised me in this regard. not the best but for an ultra tough, aggressive fighter could go backwards well the rare times it happened

I think Harada and Walker have received plenty of well-earned praise on ESB for this kind of thing, most notably for the Jofre and Hudkins fights. Harada in particular had a cracking jab and wasp-like movement in any direction. The rematch with Medel is as good an example as anything regarding this; you can see how wary he is - unsurprisingly, given what happened first time around - of Medel's punch concealment, countering ability and two-fisted power. Walker-Hudkins II is on youtube I think....

Freddie Welsh was another notable aggressive type who could turn speed merchant on the back foot when the occasion called for it. Wish we had his fight with Driscoll, he supposedly out-jabbed and timed Driscoll in the early going of that one, no mean feat if ever there was one imo.

Oh, and the godlike masterclass that was Hatton-Tackie....:amen:cool:

yes, and this southpaw guy has already had a regular ole eastside noobie welcome. and it will continue. as long as he says frazier fights well going backwards

BUT in his defense, frazier did well against quarry 1 on those RARE times he was actually backed up. so for one fight, he did it a bit

The only time I ever truly saw Frazier on the backfoot was against Foreman in the rematch. He did relatively well for a few rounds I suppose.

Gene Fullmer didn't exactly move well but he sure could get on his bike if he needed to.

true. but reading that made me think of hearns-leonard 1. hearns is usually a come forward destroyer, working behind the jab to load up the right. when leonard's power took over, he immediately switched starting boxing off the back foot
