Very good post... when looking back over the fight all the eye catching, damaging shots I can remember were Degale's. However it took him far too long to realise that he was the better man on the inside and keeping the fight long was only damaging his chances.
DeGale lost in the record books and thats what counts.......bbbbiiiiiaaaattttcccchhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He just got beat by Groves mate he isnt doing anything on world level. He comes across anyone at 168b in the top 10 he is getting beat. Same with Groves. This loss will ruin Degale he hasnt got the mental strength to recover. :deal
You can tell this from a fighter who's had 10 fights? Lets face it, Ive no ****in idea if he has the mental strength or not, and neither do you know it.
Groves fought well and his footwork was excellent . De Gale looked confused and with that vile hobbit in his corner he had no clue what to do . De Gale is the better fighter i think but he lost imo because the judges saw the shoulder , the two elbows and numerous butts he put on Groves , sign of a man shitting himself fouling . I dont see either troubling the top table but it was a great fight
A fight is scored on effective aggression, clean, hard punches, defence and ring-generalship. DeGale was rarely effective. Groves' defence and ring-generalship had him missing and following him around the ring. He may have had the harder, cleaner punches, but not enough to win him the fight. DeGale was frustrated by Groves all night. Overall, Groves was the more complete and polished fighter on the night, so that's why the judges gave it to him.:hi:
I had it 114-114. The scorecards reflected how close it was and I didn't have a problem with Groves getting his hand raised. DeGale was obviously thrown off early by Groves electing to box him and he lost a lot of the early rounds as he tried to adjust.
Degale took it with crisper shots and their workrate was not too different to give one an advantage imho. I had him winning by one point but it's irrelevant now. I will say Groves was tired in the 12th but Degale looked utterly exhausted! if that was a 15 rounder DeGale would have collapsed he has no stamina!
I thought DeGale won by 2 points, BUT: You cant fight the way he did, after bigging himself up, and belittling Groves, and win, lose or draw be satisfied with it. DeGale was awful, he was clueless, and despite IMO winning the fight, showed his naivety, and his need for a top trainer. When your a novice, you need guidance, and Jim McDonald provides none, and nothing but over excited encouragement to be honest. DeGale was obviously physically stronger, that was apparent early. He was also able to walk Groves into position to make his physciality count, but instead threw single ineffective counters. Did he throw an uppercut, any body shots........certainly till about round 9 he didnt. Did McDonald offer any advice, nope, not a bit. Also his cutman was awful too BTW. Now compare that to Groves, who was inferior to DeGale, but was given a proper gameplan, and between rounds given calm, reassuring good advice, and when cut, Williamson worked well too. DeGale needs to base himself in America, with a good trainer, and away from the backslappers, and learn his trade properly, develop a professional style rather than potshotting to computer scoring, and he'll still thrive. Congratulations George Groves.
If you put any 10 fight pro in with the top 10 in the World they'll get blown away! Of course if either of those guys fight at a World level now they'd get beaten easily, but you're looking at it as if they were 25-30 fights experienced and they're not. They're both still learning, at a similar stage in development and can still progress to do good things. Especially as they're reletively big draws already so will be "looked after" and promoted well. Maybe the reference to World level was jumping the gun a bit as there is a long way to go, but the point of the post was although beaten I think DeGale has the potential to do more than Groves (who I also hope will go on to fight at World level). Khan lost to Prescott and Warren still got him the easiest title shots around. Also you don't get to be an Olympic Gold medalist by being weak in the head (Harrison is probably the exception, but he was a multi-millionaire before he stepped in the ring). I think this loss could help DeGale.
Apparently Warren and Degale are crying robbery, and demanding the BBBC force Groves into a rematch.Has Warren asked the ref from the Cleverley v Kuziemski fight to ref Groves Degale 3 ??? Why oh why is good oxygen wasted on the likes of Warren and Degale.
