Groves controlled the fight, he landed the cleaner shots, dictated the pace, and negated DeGale's attacks with good counter-punching.
DeGale would've been lucky to come away with a draw, if there is a rematch I see Groves winning by a wider margin as he won't let DeGale's inactivity take over so many rounds like he did yesterday.

It was close, but Grove's had the edge and he deserved the win.

What's more Degale should have lost points for the shoulder / elbow stuff.

It was a close fight but there was a clear winner and it was Degale

Groves didnt do enough and certainly didnt win more rds than DeGale, a lot of people are letting there dislike for him cloud their judgement.

Had it 115-113 Groves. Thought the commentary sounded a bit bias but that might just be me.

I was at the O2, rooting for gentleman George, and pretty wasted having been drinking since noon, this is my scorecard from the night (ie a text on my phone)

    1 Degale
    2 Groves
    3 Draw (groves)
    4 Groves
    5 Draw (degale)
    6 Degale
    7 Groves
    8 Draw (groves)
    9 Degale
    10 Groves
    11 Degale
    12 Degale

    116-115 Degale

In brackets gun to my head who I would have picked to take the round.

Then I rewatched sober(ish) last night on the internet and came up with this:

    1 Degale
    2 Groves
    3 Draw (groves)
    4 Groves
    5 Draw (degale)
    6 Degale
    7 Draw (degale)
    8 Draw (degale)
    9 Degale
    10 Groves
    11 Degale
    12 Degale

    117-115 Degale.

There were so many tight rounds tough to score but I really struggle to score that fight for George, as much as I admired his approach and have to be honest I didn't expect him to see the final bell let alone take the decision.

Like I say I'm a fan of Groves over Degale and was rooting for the win but didn't feel he did enough on the night, or upon second viewing. So I can understand why Degale's camp are so pissed off, no matter how much of a **** as he comes across...

    What have I missed here?
    Cheers
    Wig

He won an olympic gold medal, just like Audley Harrison. Lots of brits were conned into thinking Harrison was the next L Lewis (despite being ancient), Brits sense of disapointment in Audley has been passed on to Khan and Degale, Degale makes the whole situation worse by being a genuinely smug SOAB.

I was at the 02 and your post is pretty spot on...apart from my scorecard at the 02. I was up in the gods so could not give a honest opinion but knew it was close(atmosphere was electric!). After watching it again on you tube i feel De Gale could of taken it but at the same time should of had at least 1 point taken off him. Anyway, can't wait till they do it again hopefully when they are both world champions!

I just watched the fight. DeGale won that easy imo. I gave him rounds 1,3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 easy. The 12th was close but James did the better work. Froch should be ashamed he lost the majority of rounds to a domestic class fighter like Groves. DeGale isn't too great either but he has a quality shot to outbox Froch since he is more defensively responsible than Groves. GGG would KO Groves or DeGale within 5.

I agree DeGale won that fight but Groves 'domestic class'?

GGG would KO DeGale and Groves within 5?

DeGale would box Golovkins ears off for 12 rounds probabaly stop him late. Froch would win in a firefight and Groves style matches up very well against Golovkin.

These GGG nutswingers are something else

Just watched the fight I had Groves win by 1 round. Mostly because what you said here. Groves can box really well off that back foot. Degale also fouled a lot which just wasn't necessary but I guess he was frustrated because he had a hard time finding Groves which still isn't an excuse. I would like to see Degale or Groves fight eitheir of the Dirrel brothers.I don't see Degale beating Froch but he it's boxing anything can happen and Frochs no spring chicken.

Young Georgie sure gets some odd incongruent nicknames... ST George. he aint no Saint lol. and he certainly aint no gentleman.

Groves is a cheeky ugly Cochney wideboy who thinks he is good looking and is convinced he is world champ despite getting his head kicked in twice.

You could make a case for either guy (and a draw) but DeGale got the better of the "fight" imo.
