Here's the only 4 fighters that really have an argument. Bob Foster, George Foreman, Jack Dempsey, Gerald McClellan, Tommy Hearns, Rocky Marciano, Rocky Graziano, Sonny Liston, Bob Satterfield, Tommy Morrison, Ron Lyle, etc all missed the cut for me.

While I do think JJ has solid power, I might add G-man above him

I was about to call that crazy talk, but honestly, seeing McClellan's resume, its a fair opinion.

Who else would you say is in the discussion? Since I noticed you didnt vote

I rarely vote in polls! But I am not sure. I don’t get wowed by power or who hits the hardest. Shavers is a fair call but when facing the best he didn’t have the skill to land it. Give me timing and skill over power every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Your choices are solid as are the runner ups. I guess Hamed could be considered. I would rather have the power and skill of Marciano than the power and skill of Shavers. Shavers might have more power but I would bet Rocky to stop him...now I am rambling lol

lol i get that, i rank shavers as the hardest puncher ever but i dont even rank him in the top 5 heavyweight punchers. Not enough accuracy, poor handspeed, no stamina, etc.

Let's just wrap it up and call it for Julian Jackson.

Hamed probably should be listed. Ask someone who the hardest puncher at 122 or 126 ever was.

I don’t think any of the guys listed would get as much of a unanimous response for weightclass.

What about Terry McGovern? Obviously we're going off of stories but the evidence is there that he was a nasty puncher even if you do think the Gans fight was a fix.

This is a discussion fraught with difficulty just because even though this is a discussion on who had the hardest pure power, other traits outside of power are bound to benefit some guys in the analysis.

For example, Wilde wasn't just a grim reaper in the power department, he was also gifted in every other category. And Bob Fitzsimmons had a brilliant brain for boxing tactics that helped get those atomic knuckles to the target more often than an equally hard hitting but less cunning boxer could.

Curtis Shepherd has a good case for best pure puncher based on his ring results and the testimony from several of the men who fought him. Arty Levine was a grotesque puncher, and so was Bob Satterfield.

I guess this is just too hard to call.

Foster should definitely be in the discussion.

Bob Foster's power didn't even transfer into heavyweight, unlike Jackson, who hits harder than some heavyweights. Foster doesn't even have feats on par with Marciano, honestly. Much less guys like Fitz and Shavers.

I am not a huge Foster guy but his power at LHW probably is the best in that division. That alone puts him on par with Jackson and shavers and a good deal above Marciano. Being the best puncher to ever rule a weight class will put him on any top 10 list of power punchers IMO

The greatness of punchers is one thing, and actually hitting hard is another. Light heavyweight doesn't have many bombers to compare to. What does LHW have? Moore? Hearns and Fitz were natural middleweights.

Foster was the same size as Marciano but he just didn't seem to hit as hard. In fact I'd say that, p4p aside, Jackson might've straightup hit harder than Foster
