It's not really that wild of a claim, I'm comparing a middleweight to a light heavyweight. Jackson just seems to be better. Better knockout ratio, KO'd better competition, more impressive KOs on tape.

Difficult thread because you may well get guys that hit incredibly hard ... but typically fight in a reserved style. Does the fact that they can uncork a rocket from hell mean they are the "hardest puncher" or are we talking about the average weight of their shots? Then there are other guys that throw huge bombs but don't have the technique to land consistently.

Really? I wasnt aware that Jackson ever KO'd anyone as good and as durable as Dick Tiger.

I cant take any poster seriously who doesn't know anything about Aaron Pryor anyway.

Absolutely agree the larger men have no dog in a P4P discussion especially when they were large in their own era

Julian Jackson is a modern all time hitter but the results Fitz got for a man barely bigger than JJ is hard to deny...without being able to watch his fights I lean on his results and supporting descriptions......killed 3 men IIRC? nearly killed Ruhlin and other heavyweights of the time could not take his power....now that is impressive and he gets my vote

Foster knocked out a lot of guys above 175. He just didn't beat much good opposition there.

    For me it goes:

    1a - Bob Fitzsimmons
    1b - Sam Langford
    2 - Bob Foster

But nobody knows. There will never be a consensus on this issue, of all issues.

Who did Julian Jackson knock out who was much bigger than himself ?
He may have had devastating power against 154 pound and 160 pound men but how does that equate to "pound for pound" hardest puncher ?

Of the names listed, it seems obvious that it is either Fitzsimmons or Wilde.

I mostly agree with your four, but can never get below six, to be honest. I have Choynski and Langford rounding out my half-dozen.

Although someone in this forum recently said that he was an attrition puncher, its still Wilfredo Gomez for me.

I think Maher and Langford belong in this discussion.

Peter Maher? That guy was (I think) a contemporary of Sullivan. What do you know about him?

Out of all of the boxers active since the late 1980s to the present day The G-Man Gerald McClellan is the hardest puncher at the highest level I have ever seen

    My vote is for G-Man.

Given those crappy limited choices I'd have to say Jackson.
