Barry michael kills me too...you think teddy atlas says the same thing ten times times in three minutes. Nothin on barry...he has said "you need to move to the left and throw a straight right down the pipe against a sth paw" no less than 50 times in two fights i have watched with him commentating. And the second fight isnt over yet. Lol We get it barry. We really do.
Luke Woods plain dominated the N.Ireland rep. 10:0 shutout! Hooper is up in about 10-15 mins on Delhi5 for those with Foxtel.
AIBA has accurate draw sheets: http://www.aiba.org/default.aspx?pId=3948# No times on there, but the afternoon session starts at 1:00 (6:30 AEDST) and the evening kicks off at 6:30 (midnight AEDST).
Hooper just win easy but i think the judges robbed him with at least 5 more points. Well done Hooper keep it up mate
Because he wasn't good enough to get in the England team. Here in britain we're getting a couple of aussie commentators on some of the boxing, any idea who they are and from what channel? I'd presume they are from Ten.
Hooper has strange style but very affective and punches are legit. Woods had a good bout aswell, although it was upto the judges. Have to give something to the irish lad. Anyway well done boys, keep going.
One of our wrestlers got DQed - cost him a silver medal! 'New Delhi: Australian wrestler Hassene Fkiri was disqualified Tuesday for making an obscene gesture to the judges in the Commonwealth Games 96kg Greco-Roman final, his coach said. Fkiri, who would have picked up a silver medal, refused to shake hands with Anil Kumar after losing to his Indian opponent, and moments earlier had shown his middle finger to the judges'. the special comments is Barry Michael - former IBF super feather champ from late 80's. was a bit of a journeyman but def world class and a danger to anyone he fought
yeah irish lad was stiff they didnt seem to score his body punches. i know its hard for 3 of the judges to all see a body shot when fighting on the inside - but the irish lad was throwing them from mid range and the left vs right thing should've made them easier to see too. hooper is a big big chance for gold - i know his opponent was too hot but hoops looked great
Are body punches scoring?? Always understood a scoring punch was the white section of the glove to the face. I've not seen a single punch scored from a body shot.
No body punches score; white part of glove also - which is to discourage slaps or more to the point not reward the slap. scoring zone is from chest to waist and down the sides also. the problem to register the punch as a score you need 3 judges to push the button within 2 seconds. usually at least 2 sides (in front and behind) the punches are blocked by the fighters bodies. its very rare for the hooks and uppercuts to the body to score - the straight left and rights are more common. i've seen blokes dropped and ko'd with liver shot that hasnt scored
Good point BCN. Have watched amateurs many times, including the 2006 Comm Games in Melb, and body punches do not receive much reward in the way of points. Asked a ref one day immediately following the last bout, and he said: 'Oh yeah, points are awarded for body punches too'. and I said to him: 'Mate we were sitting ringside all afternoon and seen a few cracking body shots that nearly came out the other side not receive a point!' He just smiled...
