I'm wondering how different people perceive commentator bias. I'm not talking about commentators talking positively about boxers in an 'objective' manner, but talking about favouring a boxer in ways seen unprofessional for a commentator. How do you guys gauge commentators (unjustly) favouring certain boxers and disfavouring others? Who do you perceive different commentators favouring and disfavouring? I would say: Jim Lampley Bias in favour of Cotto and Pacquiao. I gauge he also rather likes Marquez and GGG. Merchant Likes Pac. Doesn't like Floyd. Paulie Malignaggi Major hard on for Floyd. Incredible anti-Pacquiao bias. Al Bernstien One thing I like about him is how I think he's very non-prejudicial in his commentating. His praising of certain boxers seems pretty 'impartial' to me. I really can't gauge where his personal affections lie. Dan Rafael Anti-Rigondeaux bias. Max Kellerman Pro-Tim Bradley and GGG. Likes Marquez. Anti-Klitschko bias. EDIT: lol, how could I forget about Teddy Atlas, the most bias commentator in history. Loathes Tyson, Pacquiao and the Klits.
I prefer commentators who are or were former boxers. Most others dont have much of a clue on what happening in there. Malanoggi, RJJ, Atlas, They know what they are talking about. They call it like they see it. And sometimes you may like their perspective. But its more accurate than the rest of the knowitalls who create a very distorted perception. Lampley definately the worst --- no clue at all.
Ward was hella biased this past weekend on favor of Lundy. It was really apparent but no one seemed to care or notice.
Often times it is the predictable A-list guys who get favored. Example: Paulie (Showtime) dramatically bashing Pacquiao, rightful or not, and then Lampley (HBO) calling for a Mayweather boycott, agree or not.
Not only is Jim Lampley biased, but he often calls phantom punches. He did it a lot in the first Pacquiaco-Bradley fight, and he did it in the Crawford-Beltran fight too.
Atlas and Malignaggi are rediculously overrated Atlas is a rambling idiot and Malignaggi loves his fellow feather-fisters
