The perception of Margarito’s chances has been skewed by his one-sided loss to Mosley, by his lengthy layoff as a result of his suspension for having been caught with loaded hand wraps prior to the Mosley fight and for Pacquiao’s huge speed advantage.

But it was less than two years ago that Roach was convinced that Margarito was too big and too physical for Pacquiao and was saying he’d never allow the two to meet. And though Pacquiao’s performance in the interim has caused him to change his mind, Roach still has much respect for Margarito.

And if the Mosley fight and the suspension hadn’t taken place, the outcome of the fight would be perceived much differently. Pacquiao has a massive speed advantage, but Margarito is far stronger and has an iron chin.

The only time he ever had a problem with his chin came in the Mosley fight, when he was stopped at 43 seconds of the ninth round. The controversy about the hand wraps that occurred in his dressing room earlier that night had an impact, but more so was the fact that in the three weeks prior to the fight, Margarito had to shed 35 pounds to make the welterweight limit of 147.

Margarito had still been celebrating his epic July 26, 2008, victory over Miguel Cotto and wasn’t in nearly the kind of shape he should have been when he faced Mosley. Hand wraps controversy or not, Margarito likely would have taken a beating that night because of the lifestyle he was living after the Cotto fight.

He didn't even have a chin problem in the Mosley fight. He had a taking tons of flush shots from a power-puncher problem. Mayorga still had a great chin against Trinidad but when you're getting hit like that, it means ****all.

the night that he was caught could have more of an impact than margo being not prepared for the fight. you could only imagine what is running through his head when he was caught cheating? certainly he was not focus that night that made mosley execute his game plan more easily.

I don't really buy that part about Margo losing 35 lbs in 3 weeks. Gotta be exagerrated.

More bull**** hype. Why won't this guy also explain his return bout. Roach said it himself . "I saw your last 2 fights".

After a beating like that and a pretty long lay-off and moving up in weight, that return bout was sort of a tuneup.

It served it's purpose. Fights like that are important to get the wheels turning again. Like Hatton who looked average against Lazcano but then dominated Malignaggi right after.

More bad excuses. Don't worry when the fights is over and pac school's margo, these same writers will quickly change their tune.

The odds are 5 to 1. Margarito's defense is blocking shots with his chin. It's going to be a very entertaining ass beating in Manny's favor. All this Margarito is back and is being underrated nonsense is just hype to make some money . Manny's going to be landing very hard shots on Margarito's head. Think about it. Shots that Margarito will be "walking" into. Manny puts his whole body behind his punches added with the velocity from his speed times Margarito walking into those punches equal brain damage . I don't buy into a Top Rank in house special. Theyre bull**** fights.

i wouldn't say bull**** but yea, Pac will probably win. Pac would be a bigger favorite against Bradley or Berto than against Margo, but I would like to see those fights as well.

Soemtimes, when a fighter is coming off a tough loss, that's when he's most underrated.

Margarito NEVER HAD the skill to beat Pacquiao. Not when he fought Cotto, not when he fought Cintron.

At no point would any version of Margarito be fast enough to stop Pac's in and out movement.

He'll be big and imposing, but he's too slow.

This. I'd make Pac a 10-1 favourite against Bradley. Bradley would have nothing going for him, atleast Margo has size.

Really when facing Pac or Floyd at the moment, everyone would be a huge underdog unless they are facing each other, or their opponent is PW or Martinez. Even then, I think PW/Martinez would still be a 2-1 underdog if the fight were to be made.

This is a very intriguing fight for me.

The lay of and Mosley beating will not have helped (although a good rest after a hiding can do wonders for a boxer), but if Margo is anything like he was against Cotto then this fight will be a lot harder for Pac than many think.

I still think Pac takes it but he will have to work very hard for the victory.

The Mosley loss was bad, but like others have pointed out, Margo had to shift lots of weight prior to the fight because of his partying post Cotto and longish lay of, plus he had to deal with the mental aspects of the wrapping scandal.

Pac has the speed and stanima to out box Margo but does he have the toughness to take Margos shots and rough housing?

I think Roach and Pac's team maybe taking Margo lightly. I think they believe he is no where near the man that wore down Cotto. If they are wrong and Margo still has a lot left then he will give Pac trouble. Margo also seems 100% focused and ready for this fight unlike in the Mosley fight.
