I got this from Thomas Hauser's latest, which is a great read and an interesting look into how things played out behind the scenes. Anyway, apparently these are some things Top Rank stands to gain in their new deal with CBS...

    • Advertising during the NCAA men's baskteball tournament and other Sports programming the week of May 2nd.
    • Four-part countdown series with the first or last episode airing in a prime time, Saturday night slot.
    • Appearances for undercard fighters on CBS talk shows
    • A May 1st 60 Minutes follow up on Pacquiao
    • Hosting the CBS Morning Show in Las Vegas Monday-Friday on fight week.

that would be great, Pacquiao should not waste this opportunity to be introduced to 115 million american viewers

    Great news for the sport.

Hopefully now with the increased exposure, Arum might feel some obligation to amp up the undercard and deliver a night of relevant and exciting matchups.

From what I read, it seemed like HBO figured they had Arum by the balls, and wanted to keep Golden Boy happy. Not showing up to Arum's son's funeral didn't help either.

I hope you're right, but remember, this is boxing. So what will probably happen is Arum and co. will figure that with the added exposure they won't need to stack the card because people will tune in anyway. Hopefully someone at Top Rank will point out that more fans of the sport = more money for everyone.

I dunno if the February 19 Donaire vs Montiel will be the last Top Rank card on HBO this year... It seems Top Rank got a very good deal from Showtime/CBS...

HBO Sports chairman Ross Greenburg arranged for Arum to have a sit-down meeting with HBO President Richard Plepler. That was HBO's last ditch attempt to win back the Pacquiao fight, have the HBO big boss talk to Arum. But Arum was serious about his move and this time, CBS and Showtime outgunned HBO in terms of exposure and promotions for the Pacquiao fight.

heads will definitely roll inside HBO.

And showtime is taking very good care of their prized catch. Attending the Cotto-Mayorga press conference was not just the head of Showtime sports or Showtime pay-per-view but the Showtime chairman himself

Showtime is owned by CBS. Showtime is a subscription channel, though, so a monthly fee is required for the channel, while CBS is free television.
